Trade Rumors Involving the Jazz

In hindsight it's easy to see why the Jazz moved on from Dennis Lindsay.

Giving away the '24 FRP to dump a guy he signed in Favors. Giving bloated contracts to both Gay and Conley that no other team would've matched. It really wasn't great use of our cap or assets.
At least he didn't make any Tim Connelly type mistakes to really screw over the franchise for years.

The crazy thing is outside of trading with us Connelly has been an excellent GM.

He stuck with the Ricky/Favs/Rudy thing too long. When he draft Udoka the same night he salary dumped Ed Davis and Tony Bradley was the night I was done. I knew we would end up bringing in a vet on top of it and he added Favs with a decent overpay. When he also effed up the cap math on the JC/Favs deals so that we would be in the tax by a couple million dollars I thought he had completely checked out.

Derrick Favors really should have been Evan Mobley. He just bulked up wayyyyyy too much and had the knee injuries. Dude aged in dogs years. If he was born in a 3rd world country we'd be questioning his birth certificate.

If we had a better shooting PG than Rubio early on, and combine that with a lighter/healthier Favors, the early Jazz teams would have been a lot more interesting.

It’s actually pretty crazy. Favors at 23 and 24 was averaging 16/8 with 1.5 BPG.

All his smaller screw ups amounted to a pretty big screw up which slammed shut the Mitchell/Gobert window. It is crazy to think what 2 very obvious moves could have done. Bane and Jaden McDaniels we the obvious choices instead of Dok. Going into the summer we signed Favors we clearly needed a stretch big. I was screaming for Bobby Portis but of course we end up with the Favors disaster. Portis and either Bane or McDaniels completely changes the trajectory of our future.

The Dok pick is the worst because the rest of the FO team wanted McDaniels but DL overrode them and took Dok.

Favors was a really great dude but because he was a nice guy I think his lack of work ethic was dismissed. He never got better and always seemed to be in terrible cardio shape. He would look gassed after a couple times up and down the court. Similar to what you see from huge defensive tackles after only a few plays.

What Lindsay/Zanik did was worse. They wasted the golden opportunity to actually win something. It did screw over the franchise for years.

It's hard to know how much was related to work ethic, everyone seemed to respect and love him. But there are few players who were as drastically different when they were "right" as Favors. If his body was right, he could have been one of the better C's in the league but those times were few and far in between.

I just cant see Minnesota actually wanting Conley. They need a vet PG who is 32, not 35.

The PG position is just kind of dying down a bit. A lot of the vets who fit the Wolves list of needs have kind of aged out of being reliable starters.

The thing in our favor is that MIN is kind of trapped with DLO. If he leaves, they get nothing and won't have any cap space to replace him. But do they really want to commit to DLO long term? Their team is a mess and I can't imagine that to be the case.

Conley is a big negative with his contract, but maybe the Jazz can get away with it due to the panic in MIN.
I had great hopes of Conley showing out and being a nice trade chip, but it looks really doubtful right now. At this point his ideal role in the NBA would be as a backup point guard. I think he would be extremely high level at leading a second unit and minimizing his playing time to <20mpg.

I saw this coming after last season. He was awful in the playoffs, but you could tell in the RS he couldn't beat guys without massive screens. Conley is a good guy, but like you said he's not really a starting level player. His body can't handle that anyways. I think his value in regards to "running the team" ect. is real but overstated. The starting lineup was better with Sexton and he's the opposite of that. Maybe you can trick a team like MIN into buying, but it would have to be a unique junk for junk type of trade.

Lindsey had nothing to do with the trading of the 24 first round pick or the Rudy Gay signing. Both of those moves happened in the months between when Lindsey was reduced to an "advisory" role and Danny Ainge was hired. Justin Zanik is the guy that pulled the trigger on both of those moves.
