Trades Ideas to get into the Lottery

I wouldn't trade Jefferson for a draft pick. I would trade him for a valuable role player and a pick.

While we're on this, what are the monetary chances we keep this core together? Is it reasonable to believe that we could fit them all in our budget?

There are way too many unknowns. Waiting an extra year for draft picks helps a little though.

Let's see how our bigs, namely Jefferson, play this post-season first. Let's also see how they develop over the off-season and if this Millsap-Jefferson-Favors lineup can work for much of a season, many minutes a game. I think once we're about 35 games in next year, we'll have a very good idea, and can move accordingly from there.

Yes - this cautious move is Rep worthy. Thought about this and this is the way to go. Tell Millsap that we want him to be a part of this team, don't want to break up the core, etc, etc, and tell him to shape up to start at SF next year. I think it's possible. He already has a the mid range game/post up game. All he needs to work on is his 3pt shooting and running around guarding SF (may be lose some weight).

Granted he'll be too slow for some SF, but he'll also be a mismatch on the other end with his posting up.

mmmk, what the hell are you going to tell Jefferson?

Not sure exactly what you're asking, but every lottery pick has a chance to jump into the top 3. If any pick 8-14 jumps, it will bump the 7 back to 8, and Utah will get it, assuming the 7 doesn't also jump.

Thank you. I know next to nothing about draft/lotto.

I'd be happy pay about $8-$9m max to keep Jefferson and around the same to keep Millsap. They both have their merits. Jefferson gives us that low block scorer that our offense needs. Plus he's an improving passer & defender. Millsap has that X-factor, playing game winning defense, hitting game winning shots, he's a talent we can't lose.

I think we sell both Jefferson & Millsap on our future and get them to commit to the overall plan (as well as accepting slightly lower than market value for their services). If we can pay $17m for both, I'm pretty happy. That leaves us with some cash to spend on Favors and Hayward as they come on stream.

It's sort of the Detroit model a few years ago when they won with Billups. No real star, but everyone contributes. I heard KOC mention the "Detroit" word once or twice during an interview so I don't think this is out of the realm of possibility.

So then thats it then. Al and Paul are off the table as far as trades go. We offer to extend at a lower price or wait til they expire. But I guess if they balk at the deal then we would know how interested they are in lower pay.

So thats my question then. Can we offer to extend Al and Paul this offseason?

We should teach Jeremy Evans how to dribble and shoot, so that he looks like a lottery pick. Can you imagine how good he'd be if he could do cross-overs, spin moves, and fade-away jumpers?

We don't even need to trade into the lottery. This strikes me as the kind of draft that the good teams will be able to get key players late in the first. How do we get any first rounder?

From what I've read from KoC, he doesn't seem to feel the need to getting into this year's lottery. We got so many young guys already still developing and looking promising... Doubt we could get much for CJ or old man Bell... Jefferson and Millsap are not likely to move, IMO...

I am ok with not getting a pick but if you think this year's draft is better than next years draft then you trade the GS pick for a lower lottery pick in this year's draft.
