Hi.
So has anyone else had any experience trying to transfer money from the US abroad, or vice versa? We have been working on that particular conundrum for a while now, and our best option up to a few weeks ago was to save up a bunch so the huge fee hit wouldn't hurt so hard. It can cost upward of 2% of the amount + fees to transfer money internationally, which is a huge joke considering it all happens automatically.
But a few weeks ago we found Transferwise. It is awesome. For a very nominal fee (our first few transfers have cost at most $4 each) they will transfer money anywhere they currently operate, which is in most european countries, the UK, the US and many other countries. They totally cut out the middleman, meaning banks, by registering as their own financial entity in the country, then they more or less transfer it to themselves then deposit it in your bank, all electronically, all within a couple days. I just wish they could do it automatically, but that might come.
Anyway I guess this was more or less an ad for Transferwise, but wow have they saved us a ton in transferring money back to the states monthly for our family.
