Hi.

So has anyone else had any experience trying to transfer money from the US abroad, or vice versa? We have been working on that particular conundrum for a while now, and our best option up to a few weeks ago was to save up a bunch so the huge fee hit wouldn't hurt so hard. It can cost upward of 2% of the amount + fees to transfer money internationally, which is a huge joke considering it all happens automatically.

But a few weeks ago we found Transferwise. It is awesome. For a very nominal fee (our first few transfers have cost at most $4 each) they will transfer money anywhere they currently operate, which is in most european countries, the UK, the US and many other countries. They totally cut out the middleman, meaning banks, by registering as their own financial entity in the country, then they more or less transfer it to themselves then deposit it in your bank, all electronically, all within a couple days. I just wish they could do it automatically, but that might come.

Anyway I guess this was more or less an ad for Transferwise, but wow have they saved us a ton in transferring money back to the states monthly for our family.

I had a recommendation to try paypal. I have actually done that already but it doesn't function as a free transfer, and they are having problems verifying my German account information. That was my first thought, and really the transfer costs end up being about the same due to their own internal fees. I will probably try them out again once they sort out my German account info, as I think I can set up a standing transfer through them. Mal sehen.

I have no monies to transfer

I have no monies to transfer

I move my coins from my left pocket to my right pocket, free of charge.

I'm not yet an established institution so legally cannot do this move for others.

I'm not opposed to kickstarter monies though. I will accept them.

I have same problem 10 years back moving from Siberian Forest into the Provo, Utah. There is no paypal and USA bank charge like 18% to deal in Ruble. So i deal in internations currency, the cocain. Packing 48,000 usd in cocain up the keister was not comfortable but I have connection so I sell it here for 100,000 and buy house in Provo Mexican ghetto.

Do not sell drugs. I do not advocate this risky route. I do not want another infraction for advocating drug use.
