What's new

Trey Burke is my new whipping boy

@Orangello, I also received my fair of negs for my concerns with Trey (always backed by stats), and for my positive assertions about Kanter. Seems like the board has slowly been coming around to my way of thinking, yet I don't have the positive reps to show for it.
Let me start changing that for you.

Ha! I said he was a wasted draft pick the minute that it happened and I got negged for it quite a bit.

I welcome everyone to the anti-Burke bandwagon. What a wasted draft pick.

I don't watch a ton of college basketball, so I admit I hadn't seen much of Trey before the draft. I was hopeful DL knew what he was doing, but during summer league I immediately noticed he was too short and slow to get to the basket (against SCRUBS!) and his shooting was awful. Someone bumped a thread in which I had Giannis/Gobert as my picks. So I feel justified as having Trey as my whipping boy for two seasons. Got my share of negs as well.

I'm not advocating installing Dante as the starter right now. What I think we need is a veteran guard to come in and start for another year, split time with Dante, then move to backup as Exum proves he's ready to start.

What would getting rid of Burke for a vet PG accomplish?

The rest of the starters get a lot better on both offense and defense. Hard for Quin to know what tweaks he has to make to his systems when he has such a liability right at the top of it all. Also a mentor for Dante. What can Burke teach Exum? Well, Trey shoots FT's really well. Dante is very, very raw. I just don't see him starting for another couple of seasons.

I don't see a trade happening until this summer, though. DL will want to look at where we're at after the draft and perhaps assess what FA's might be available.
