Trey Burke v Houston Rockets Highlights

I don't see the Allen Iverson comparison other than the #3. AI was an athletic freak with great handles. Burke is a guy who realize more on his high Bball IQ ,and crafty moves. He's more Chris Paul than Iverson. His ability to run an efficient offense and limit mistakes will be what makes TB3 a special player. Iverson in his day was the most explosive guard in the game.
 
I don't want to say much about him, because i just want him to be a solid player. He's looking good so far, looks like he just needs to figure out his strengths and then work at those (he's not the biggest, fastest player). I really like how he plays though and his demeanor.

Something I noticed, he had the ball in his hands a lot more yesterday then Hayward. Which looked a lot better.

I'd like to see him make some more passes then shots, but I'm sure he'll keep learning.
 
The big question now is fluke, or no fluke? We will see as the season progresses, but I sure hope it was not a fluke.
 
Houston didn't respect Burke's jump shot and he made them pay. And I like how when he drives to the basket he always seems to make the right decision - he takes the guy when it's 1-on-1 and when they bring help me dumps it off.

I think his jump shot on body movements are similar. Sort of a Chris Paul/AI mix.

No he isnt as athletic as AI. But he isnt bad either.

A bit off-topic, but a couple comments motivated me to take a look at historical free throw rates:

1. Your comment above.
2. Harpring talking about players shooting 9 or 10 free throws per game

On #2: Only 3 damn players shot 9+ free throws per game last season. Expecting Gordo to get there is ****ing ridiculous. Harp, don't be stupid.

Generally: The last 2+ seasons have seen a significant decline in free throw attempts per field goal attempt. From the 1976/77 season through the 2010/11 season, in all but one season (2001/02) the league average free throw rate (free throw attempts per field goal attempt) was .300 or higher. Here are the numbers since 2011/12:

11/12: .276
12/13: .270
11/12: .282 (still early...I suspect this will go down as teams' execution improves with familiarity)

During Iverson's prime (96/97 through 07/08), the average league average free throw rate was .315, about 17% higher than 12/13's .270. There's a reason why I've been more and more impressed with the officiating in the NBA...
 
Burke reminds me of Chris Paul more than anyone at this point in his career. Similar build, no outlandish athleticism, and excellent in the pick and roll. Both dominated in college and look to be pretty good in their first season. The comp is flawed though, because what young CP3 possessed in passing ability, Trey Burke makes up for in shooting ability. So their playing style is fairly different in the sense that Burke will shoot more because he is a better shooter at this stage in his career than CP3 was. However, their playing style is very similar in the sense that they make the right play more often than not, and handle the ball very well.

The most exciting part of this comparison has nothing to do with style of play. Burke and Paul both seem very motivated to constantly get better and improve their skills. Burke's sample size is much smaller at this point, but after watching his progression his freshman year and his massive improvements sophomore year, it was obvious he really takes playing basketball pretty damn seriously. Once again, it appears that he has continued to improve into his first season in the NBA. This is the best attribute a player can have imo

Also, they are leaders who pay attention to detail and motivate others to do so as well.

It is so obvious that the offense runs better with him controlling the ball. I am happy with his play since coming back from his injury. I wasn't down on him due to his summer league performance but the last game even exceeded my expectations.

Hopefully, he will get more accustom to his teammates and average closer to 10 assists a game. I want to remind people that Ty pushed for the Jazz to draft the kid.

I honestly don't see Trey as the type to ever average around 10 assists per game. Looks for his shot too much to do that IMO.

Not that that's a bad thing...just how I see it.

You need teammates that can consistently hit shots to average 10 apg. Don't expect those numbers anytime soon from trey.
 
The part I liked most about his game is how he had no problem taking it to Dwight. There were probably 4 or 5 times in that video that he scored on Dwight Howard. He made it look easy.
