What's new

Trey Burke. What more do you need?

Exum
Korver
Hayward
Millsap
Favors

This team would get thrashed on the boards ,too small and would easily get dominated in the 4th quarter by the big PF 's that are on all the Western Conference teams .

ah... typcial jazzfanz kneejerk reaction. burke has improved tremendously. he is the most improved defensive player we have.

Actually he has so far digressed statistically in basically every category, not to mention his defense to me has seemed worse. So all the criticism of Burke so far this season is 100% warranted.

I have far from given up on Trey, especially with how well I thought he played in the preseason. BUT so far in the regular season he has been bad, and worse then last season.

Stats are overrated. To me, while his shooting has been subpar, he seems much more confident, gets to the rim far more than he did last year, and is holding his own on defense -- has gone head-to-head with Reggie Jackson, Eric Bledsoe, and Chris Paul, a very challenging assignment. His foul shooting also is off, I think in part because he has more responsibility this year and is still learning his role. I see improvement not decline.

Reggie Jackson,

?
Doesn't he play for okc?

Burke has gone against beverly, jameer nelson, bledsoe, and cp3 though. Still very tough matchups

All this talk of bringing Millsap back, but maybe we need Matthews more? Both are FAs at season's end.

Exum/Burke
Matthews/Burks
Hayward/Hood
Millsap/Booker
Favors/Gobert

Definitely looks like a playoff team with promise. When Exum blooms...... even more expectations.

Hate to break this to you but the jazz just committed 40+million to burks. He won't be hanging around the bench anytime soon.

Exactly. The investment, whether via the draft, free agency or in a trade, will be to bring in another PF. Don't know much about the draft class and who might be there in the 8-10 range (where I think Utah will land). Not sure if possible, but the Jazz should try to extend Booker's deal. Might be like Boozer's situation in Cleveland, though. Jazz would have to make him a FA in order to give him a better deal. As for Burke, I think he sticks around the whole season, but wouldn't be at all surprised to see the Jazz go after a veteran PG this summer to play behind Dante and look to trade Trey.

Part of the problem is that most people overrated him coming out of college, so with high expectations comes major disappointment when he doesn't live up to his college performance. I wasn't that high on him so my disappointment isn't that great. However, I haven't given up on him yet but it sure would help the cause if he could make a few more shots.

Another part of the criticism, is that many in Jazz nation just love to have a whipping boy. It may take Trey a few years to get out of it. Some hate on Kanter more, last year it was Hayward, when Alec got in the league people were upset with him and wished we had taken some one else. In the end a few of these guys are not going to be with the Jazz but until they leave I will limit my criticism to rational/reasonable level.

Matthews can guard 1-3. Sign me up. I forgot that "poison pill" contract was nearly up. Time flies.

We're short a perimeter player.... or at least that seems apparent to me... We'll add one, and there will be competition for minutes, starting jobs, etc. Burks has to get better. (I think he will).

Questions for teh Burke is worthless crowd: do you view Burke as a Brandon Knight? Better? Worse?

What's the point in trading someone who can play the role just fine? (I'm assuming it's to run an empty guard lineup but some seem set on dumping him without this goal in mind)

He was the ninth pick in a very poor draft class. I think we were happy to squeeze a nickel out a tightwad's *** more than anything.
