Trump abandons Kurdish allies to Turkish invasion

and then one of the reasons we send troops to Saudi Arabia is to strengthen defense against Iran. But we just handed them a golden opportunity with the Kurds.

Smfh. It’s just chaos. It’s not even as good as a bad plan would be.

It’s leadership in this country going to ****s, with an opposition that doesn’t paint a much better picture given the candidates that are being pushed. It’s entertaining to watch, if not frightening.

The population is so divided, neither side can have a civil conversation with the other side.

The Kurds aren't allies. They're a communist group that happened to have a common enemy, ISIS. They used our help to try to create a kurdish state. Which is something that does not benefit us at all. We have no "ally" in this conflict. Not the kurds, not Erdogan, and damn sure not Assad. We should not have ever even been in this conflict in the first place. Trying to police the middle east NEVER ends in a good result for the United States. Trump is making the right decision here. And it's hilarious to listen to the same democrats who were crying about how the US needed to pull troops out of Middle East conflicts now cry that it's happening just because Trump was the one to do it. But I guess it hurts their angle that Trump is a warmonger

Do people say Trump is a warmonger? I have seen people like gameface say that Trump not being a warmonger is one of the few things he likes about trump. Me too. Haven't really seen anyone call him a warmonger before.
Plenty of things to criticize Trump about but so far that ain't one of them.

Trump isn’t pulling troops out of the Middle East. He just moved 50 of the 1,000 troops we had stationed in that part of Syria. Which is resulting in even more war and instability. Did you miss that he’s sending thousands of troops to Saudi Arabia or did Fox News not show that yesterday? Maybe you should watch or read from better sources?

Yeah it was a big fear/criticism of Trump from democrats. Especially house democrats early in his presidency. I should probably clarify that I'm not saying people here were saying it. Idk tbh because I usually don't jump into the political threads. They get a little to venomous for my taste on most internet forums most of the time.

There is always war and instability in the middle east. We don't have a dog in the fight in Syria. We don't need to be there risking the lives of our people. I'm not sure how I feel about sending troops to Saudi Arabia yet. I don't like Iran's aggressive actions recently so maybe having troops ready nearby isn't the worst idea. It's not like they'll be in combat fighting a never ending battle that can't be won like they were in Syria. But if sending troops to Saudi Arabia ends in more violence it's obviously not a good result. I don't watch Fox News. I don't like any form of one sided media from either side. I take the facts news sources provide and use my own critical thinking.

this is nonsense.

the Kurds are not communists. The PKK is a group of communist Kurds. They have been our allies in the battle against ISIS for years. As long as they remained allied with the US, Turkey kept its distance. Trump green lighted the massacre.

Positioning this as political is ignorant. trump’s state dept, intelligence agencies, and defense department all oppose this move. So do congressional republicans. There is much stronger republican opposition than dem.

and we had several hundred soldiers helping the Kurds who defeated isis. The idea that it is to draw down these troops is preposterous. We just added 2,000 soldiers to Saudi Arabia. Do the math.

So you admit you were wrong when you claimed he was taking troops out of the Middle East? Cuz that’s a pretty important misconception you Trumpers keep making and it really needs to stop.

It’s doubtful that adding more troops to Saudi Arabia will increase violence. However, his rational is pretty awful (they paid us).

I do know that moving our 50 troops away from strategic locations in northern Syria most definitely has led to increased violence. Look at what’s currently happening.

Glad you corrected this. I was going to and then got sidetracked with correcting his false claim that trump is taking troops out of the ME. His post sucked ***. Just false claims galore. Calling the Kurds communist, trump taking troops out of the ME, etc. it’s just a walking talking glen Beck/Hannity rant. High on Opinion low on accurate facts.

You okay with letting ISIS alone? The strategy of giving air cover, intelligence, training, and funding and letting others fight Isis has been widely acclaimed as a successful strategy. Trump gets credit for this and had some bipartisan support until this recent fiasco.

Forgive me because this is a copy/paste of a response I posted on FB.

It's one thing to say we should not be involved "over there." It's another thing to get involved, find people who are willing to work with us, tell them that if they "go there" and do "that" we will have their backs. Then when they get there we make an agreement with another country to step aside while they massacre them because they are in the place we asked them to be.

As a military vet I find that to be shameful. Don't we have any honor? None? We led those Kurds to slaughter under the lie that we were their friends. That's not the same as not being involved. That's us being an accomplice to their murder.

I heard the other day that over 11,000 Kurds have perished in fighting against ISIS. Not sure what our casualties were but I know they weren’t close to that. And we all know that if ISIS had been allowed to grow, we would’ve eventually seen great casualties as they would’ve threatened our allies or attacked us, just as the taliban fed Al-Qaeda. They fought and died so we wouldn’t have to. And we abandoned them by moving 50 whole troops out of a certain area. An area that Turkey is now destroying.
