Trump Dictatorship and All Things Politics

My yearly egg spend is still under $100.

Do you all eat eggs every day?

I've got nothing against eggs, but I don't make them at home on a weekly basis.

At $4 per dozen that's a little less than $0.30 per egg.

Is an egg not worth $0.30?

Okay, so if you eat two eggs every day for a year you will pay $219 for eggs in a year (at $4 per dozen) and that will be a significant source of your nutrition.

Sounds like eggs have been underpriced for a long time.

I probably average about an egg a day.
And I think the price is fine currently.
I also think that paying under 3 dollars per gallon of gas is fine and don't really think it needs to be any lower.

It is weird people are so bent out of shape about egg prices. Prior to the bird flu outbreak breakfast at diners in my area were almost $18 (WA). Housing is high, and wages have not caught up. The across the board inflation is what is still causing a lot of people to struggle. Food prices have really gone up.

I signed up for Walmart+ in November of 2021 and have online receipts of prior purchases. I generally order the same staples from them (basically everything except fruits, meats Asian market stuff (I cook a lot of Thai food)). Comparing the same items over the last few years have resulting in my average bill resulting in about a 40% increase.

A few samples: In 2021 a 24 pack of coke (my vice) was $8.98 and now it is $13.98. Jam was $4.50. Now $6.00. Chocolate chips were $4.38 in 2022. Now $7.37. (I was shocked to see they are $11.50 at Safeway). Cereal, bread, canned goods have all seen increases but at a lower %.

I feel for graduates entering the workforce now. Affording a house with combined prices and interest rates is a tough hurdle for many. I am so grateful that I was able to buy and sell a few homes and build equity when prices were reasonable.

If I did that this would be my face while sitting on the toilet for the fifth time that day.

I’m genuinely curious what people eat for breakfast.

I probably consume 2-4 eggs a week. Almost always fried or hard boiled for breakfast. A piece or two of toast.

Most of the time if I eat breakfast it’s a banana and a protein shake. Or a bowl of cereal. I usually eat something light.

Is this normal?

And for those eating 10+ eggs per week, why? Are you trying to bulk up? What’s your cholesterol like? Don’t eggs screw that stuff up?

Definitely applaud this. Curious where the money is coming from though. We don't have unlimited supplies. Are we going to see tax raises coming for those making more than $400k or something? What will they cut to accommodate it besides DOJ attacks removing good qualified people from critical roles?
Not only am I curious about where the money is going to come from (aside from the most predictable place, Uncle Sam’s credit card) but I’m really curious if those on Wall Street can take advantage of the “no tax on tips” thing as well. I seem to remember Ted Cruz proposing something similar and while it sounded nice to service industry folks, those benefiting the most were Wall Street hedge funders who could claim that their earnings were “tips.” Given Donald’s history, I’ve gotta think there is a major catch here. Donald never does anything to financially benefit others without giving himself the largest handout.

Pretty gross of Trump to start banging on about hiring practices in the immediate aftermath of the aviation disaster. So inappropriate
Not just inappropriate, after all he has “inappropriate” down to a science, lol. It’s also kinda stupid, also a trait often associated with the man. What he did not realize is that he initiated the DEI hiring practice changes himself. It began during HIS first term, lol. Political Jazz Fan posted about Trump nailing the FAA and DEI, thinking no doubt that it would stop the immediate criticism of Trump and show him in the best light. That Democrat’s criticism of him was inappropriate. But Political Jazz Fan did not do his homework first:

All qualify for the position of a controller of airplanes pouring into our country, pouring into a little spot, a little dot on the map, a little runway.”
— President Donald Trump, decrying what he called DEI standards imposed by previous administrations, Jan. 30

In the aftermath of the deadly collision between a jetliner and a Black Hawk helicopter at Reagan National Airport, Trump held an extraordinary news conference during which he speculated on the cause of the accident. At length, he attacked former presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden for imposing what he called “a big push to put diversity” that he said weakened the Federal Aviation Administration.

Reading from a 2024 Fox News report — which he incorrectly identified as being two weeks old — Trump listed conditions that he suggested disqualify people from being air traffic controllers: “hearing, vision, missing extremities, partial paralysis, complete paralysis, epilepsy, severe intellectual disability, psychiatric disability, and dwarfism.”

“Can you imagine?” he asked. “Brilliant people have to be in those positions, and their lives are actually shortened, very substantially shortened because of the stress.” He suggested that it was wrong for anyone with those conditions to qualify “for the position of a controller of airplanes pouring into our country, pouring into a little spot, a little dot on the map, a little runway.”

But here’s the rub: During Trump’s first term, the FAA began a program to hire air traffic controllers with the conditions that Trump decried.

FAA Provides Aviation Careers to People with Disabilities,” the agency announced on April 11, 2019. The pilot program, the announcement said, would “identify specific opportunities for people with targeted disabilities, empower them and facilitate their entry into a more diverse and inclusive workforce.”

The link under “targeted disabilities” is now dead, but the Wayback Machine retains links from June 2017 and January 2021 that show the page was unchanged during Trump’s tenure. The list included:
  • Hearing (total deafness in both ears)
  • Vision (Blind)
  • Missing Extremities
  • Partial Paralysis
  • Complete Paralysis, Epilepsy
  • Severe intellectual disability
  • Psychiatric disability
  • Dwarfism

Here’s Trump unknowingly blaming himself, lol. Which one of our Trump apologists thought was a gotcha for Trump’s opponents.
