What's new

Ty Corbin's quote on playing Jefferson over Burks in the 4th.

It's funny, but Corbin's decision to not play Burks last night was not the wrong decision. There is not one thing anyone can show that says that he made the wrong decision.

Jefferson had 9 in the fourth quarter and a couple of offensive rebounds. After Burks left the game, the Jazz cut the lead from 14 to 5 with 1:30 to play. Not saying Burks wouldn't have played as well, but Corbin was right. Jefferson was playing well in the fourth. Corbin's trying to win games despite what you think his "mandate" is from Lindsey.
Yep. Just re-watched the 4th. RJ was playing really well, and the unit he was playing with made a run. What Corbin said is 100% accurate.

I really don't care if Jefferson was playing well during that time. Burks had shown that he was one for the first 3 quarters, Corbin was just scared that putting Burks back in would have let them win the game.

The Jazz were down 9 in the third. Burks, Burke, and Hayward all played together. When Hayward subbed out, the Jazz were down 14.

Jefferson came in for Hayward. When Hayward came in for Burks, we were still down 14. From that point forward, Hayward, Burke and Jefferson were able to cut the lead to 5 before inexperience won out.

Burks is a nice backup SG. That's it.

Doesn't matter that Jefferson was +1 and Burks was -9 either.

You are going to use +/- as a serious argument for one player playing better than another independent of matchups and player combos?

Cut the crap -- you know + / - depends on a number of variables, not just the individual's play. Burks was the only reason they were in the game the first 3 quarters. You can keep Jefferson in, if you want, but you have to keep Burks in, the way he was playing. Otherwise, you suck as a coach and are totally disrespecting your player.

Could you imagine how terrible a Burke, Burks, Hayward, Kanter, Favors lineup would be? LOL. No spacing whatsoever. Trey and Favors would run a pick and roll, and Favors would roll right into Kanter. Or the ball would go to Kanter/Burks and Alfense would be back. At least Al was good at Alfense. No one would defend us against the three. They would pack the paint. We would forced into long jumpers by Kanter or Burks.

Wanna tank and NOT develop anyone? Run that lineup out there.

Yet in the minutes it was tried they played better than any lineups the Jazz have used all year. According to a post in my thread dedicated to that lineup. He had a # of games to try it, when he finally did it worked really well against a great defense. And yet the following game (with everybody healthy, just for U Frankin-troll) he used that lineup exactly 0 minutes.
