What's new

Tyrone Corbin right name for the future?

Its so obvious to everyone what has to happen, right? ...right? You would think KOC has to see it also. If nothing goes down at the trade deadline then he really does lose his credibility.

Ilyasova, why haven't you posted much until now, apparently you could bring a lot to the board, I hope you post more often from now on.

On the issue, I'm gonna just put forth my side, because I can't get into detail and post longer these days.

I'm still on the side of Ty and KOC, as of now. Yes, I too hate Ty's absurd rotations and I admit that it's a huge mistake in the name of KOC, in the first place, establishing a young team under a coach who is also a young and inexperienced just like the team.

But at this point, I prefer to stand with patience to wait and see what happens the next ten days, for the short term future. And for the mid-long term future I'm with "Cyrone Torbin", I would give Ty a chance, a real chance.

For Kanter, of course I would like to watch him getting a lot of pt, but I believe it's not been so bad for him with this way either. He couldn't play high level BB for a long period of time and now he's in the highest level, he's getting used to the NBA in a more safe way. Of course it would be much better with 17-20 mins instead of only 14-15 mins, but I'm sure his mins will increase after the TD, even if both Big Al(I really want him gone) and Millsap don't go anywhere.

Burks got big minutes tonight. That makes me happy. I agree with all the concerns, but I'm willing to give Ty one more year with a full training camp.

My opinion is we have a VERY short window to greatness. We may blow it waiting one more year. I agree with you that he likely deserves another year .. I'm just not necessarily prepared to play nice ... 30years of mediocrity, followed by this opportunity, followed by mediocrity .. is not my patience level served.

What? Our core players won't even reach their prime for several years. How do you come to the conclusion that we have a VERY short window to greatness?

What I meant was ..

We don't 'own' these young core players for life. We need to develop them so we know who to throw the money at, what pieces we need to add through the draft/trades, and if we kill a year it could be devastating. Devastating? (you ask) Yes, devastating. If we only develop our youth in an average way, we may lose the opportunity in THREE, FOUR, or FIVE years we could have had .. we may see THAT team never come to fruition. I didn't intend to say we would be contending in a year or two, I meant that the next year or two is crucial to where we end up in the couple years following those.

If anything, my statements should have been more obvious than ridiculous.

Another training camp won't solve Corbin's dumb substitution patterns. He needs to be fired this off-season (or is his contract up?) and we need to go after a real coach. JVG. Nate if he's fired as rumored. Someone else. Anyone else.

Find myself agreeing with your every post.

I thought it was obvious, especially when you consider the Jazz a small market team. We cannot afford to over pay to keep someone.

Thanks. Sometimes I find myself wondering if I'm just insane. But now that you have said you clearly understand ....... I wonder if you are as well?? lol

I don't know.

Who's the cure?

Jeff Hornacek? It's easy to complain but what's the solution? Phil Jackson is going to coach us...

I remember folks used to always complain about Sloan. Now we have Corbin, a much younger and "hip" coach. He's a "players coach" that guys can relate to. He isn't so strict offensively and even changed up the defense! Much more different than Jerry.

Yet, Jazz fans continue to bitch about him.

So if Ty being the cure, wasn't much of an improvement over the disease (Sloan). Why then would you think x cure will be an improvement over Ty (the new disease)?

Don't have a specific cure. However, the best we can do is be looking to upgrade at every position (including the coaching staff) when possible. Or, we could just say it is what it is .. and remain the same.

I do not think it is about short NBA season whithout training camp. It is about the mentality and pick the right option. He just wanna guarantee his job by being mediocre. Using Al jefferson and Millsap is easy way to be the coach but how bout to let young guys be the man even though the mistakes or how bout make the right system for the future from now on? Nope. He is thinking short period and it hurts the potential and young guys.

Agreed. Corbin is taking the easy way out, and it is a move of desperation, hoping beyond hope that this group of vets can pull it together and get us to the playoffs. Despite all the evidence of the last two years. And I too am way tired of the wing being glued to the floor, having to make Ol' Jer's entry pass to the low post. Its like they have been told they will be benched for a year if they budge one inch off that spot.

Great point. Every coach has its weakness. It was time for Sloan to go as game passed him and he drove me crazy with his inability to adjust, so no regrets because of that. Ty is doing pretty decent job with rooster he has ( part of responsibility should be on KOC as well!) and no training camp he had. If they miss playoffs next year after adding couple more lottery picks then it is time to look for something better. So far let him work.

I agree.

But I think Jazz fans need to realize that no coach is perfect... Especially with a younger less experienced one like Ty Corbin.

I think fans need to also realize that even the Jazz franchise might be a little confused at this point. Play the young guys? Or stick and fight for a playoff?

To fans, it's easy to say "PLAY THE YOUNG GUYS! WHO CARES ABOUT THIS SEASON?" When in reality, how many coaches "play the young guys" and lose more games and then end up being fired? Ty Corbin isn't doing what's best for the Jazz franchise, nor should he. He should be doing what's best for his own job career, which means WIN GAMES. By whatever means possible. Which is, IMO, a huge reason why he is reluctant to turn the reigns over to the young kids.

Today's coaching is WHAT HAVE YOU DONE FOR ME LATELY? It's not... THANKS FOR TANKING THIS SEASON TO DEVELOP OUR YOUNG GUYS.

I want to see the young guys play.... But having said that, I also know that Ty is faced with different pressures and stresses than I. Who knows, maybe KOC has demanded he play the vets in order to raise their trade value?

The other strategies about timeouts and such, meh, no one is perfect. I think with more experience he'll gain a better feel for when to use timeouts and who to draw up the plays for.

We're not that great of a team. Seriously, if you had to draw up a last second shot for our team, would you really be confident that we could deliver? I wouldn't.

Back in the day I would. we had Hornacek, Malone, Bruss, and Stockton who could all nail big shots.

The Heat have two guys that can hit big shots. In fact, most playoff teams have guys that can hit big shots. Even non-playoff teams, like PHX have Nash.

We have????????????????????????????.............

Harris? Ugh...
Big Al? gross...
Maybe Millsap?

Other options? chucker miles? Airball Hayward? Josh Howard? Rookie Burks? At this point, rookie Burks might be our best perimeter scorer.

Why should we be content with Corbin if we feel he is doing a poor job in certain circumstances? This is America, we're allowed to speak our minds and have our own opinions. I'm not going to be too harsh on Coach Corbin, but there are a few things he does that baffle me. His ability to manage rotations are mediocre. If a player starts chucking up shots (Miles) and hurting the team, you've got to take him out and bring in someone else. I know Corbin isn't stupid, he probably just has a different mentality when it comes to subbing out players. Maybe he thinks if he leaves Miles in there like that he'll eventually get better and do less chucking in the future. I don't know. I just know he (Corbin) has got a lot of room for improvement. KOC needs to give him a better chance at being the coach he can be by moving some pieces and improving some positions.

Please strap your junk to the nearest rocket ship. TIA.

There is a saying in the hospitality business: no one ever gets fired for running 100 percent. This even though revenue and profit margin are less. Same can be said with NBA head coaches. Playoff coaches don't get fired. I kno there are a few exceptions, this for the most part is true. Ty is doing whatever it takes to secure his job which means sacrificing the future to try and sniff the playoffs.

Koc needs to let Ty know this is the direction otherwise we will not see a change in philosophy. No one want to lose their job and Ty will do whatever it takes to keep his at the detriment of our future.

Maybe this won't be that popular because he hasn't coached in a couple years, but I think he was a really good coach....Sam Mitchell. I would like to see him in Utah, I think he could do a really good job here.

I'm not in lust with Corbin, I think he is a decent coach though and I think he is doing ok with what he has available. The main reason I don't like the fire Corbin sentiment is who are we going to replace him with? I hear a lot of people wanting Van Gundy, first off, you really think he is giving up that cushy announcing job to come coach the Jazz? If you do you are stupid, second didn't he get fired and thats why he is announcing ? He is not a foolproof answer to our problems regardless. So until someone has a logical and reasonable successor to Ty they can STFU.

Give it one more season.

I'd like to see him with a full training camp.

....full training camps won't mean anything....these guys are ingrained at this stage of there careers and will carry their bad habits to the grave with them! Little old Ty Corbin couldn't change a thing if he had these guys practice for 6 months before the next game!
