Tyson Chandler Not Opting Out. Sign and Trade?

When looking at the list of potential FA's, Tyson Chandler was probably at the top of my wish list but I realized it was completely impossible for Utah to snag him because of his asking price.

Well now, he has decided not to opt out of his deal. This is something Utah should pursue in regards to a sign and trade with Boozer. I'd have to assume Booz wouldn't mind going to play for the Bobcats. After all, he chose to play his college ball in NC. It also looks like the Bobcats want to move Chandler. Here's a snippet from the article:

Sources say that the Bobcats have explored a number of trade scenarios and that there's a good possibility he could be moved this summer.

Chandler is constantly injured. No thanks. 13 million next year. Cheaper guys could include Gooden, Frye, Haslem to be realistic. Hopefully Fes is improving this off season. He is playing with the national team this summer and Memo will be back sooner rather than later. Now Chad Ford thinks we will do a sign and trade with NY for Lee in exchange for Boozer. We shall see.

I'd take him for anything between 6 - 8 mil; which is about what he's worth.

Anything more than that - no thanks.

I know he is not perfect, but of the available options, i think he ranks pretty high. Sign and trade for Boozer. Before the injury he was a beast in the middle.
I have read that he is completely healthy now. If he shows he is back from the injury, then re-sign him with AK's expiring contract to free up money... If not, he is expiring.

It appears that the injury is behind him now.

I think he is an option worth seriously exploring.

The guy averaged a double-double for the Bobcats last year with 11.8 pts and 11.8 rebs per game. He gives us a true 7 foot presence in the middle. As far as his injuries, there's no getting around that but the ESPN article talks about the fact that he's spent the offseason healing and training in LA and is supposedly feeling as healthy as he ever has. In a way I guess he's putting his money where his mouth is because he is so confident that he is healthy and ready for a career year, he's willing to stay in his contract in hopes of earning a much bigger pay day in 2011.

I would be all over this if I were Utah. You're never going to acquire a talented 7 footer without a certain amount of questions. Jazz fans should no better than anybody that 7 footers just don't fall in your lap. Utah's got their backs against the wall in regards to needing a big man and I think Chandler is the perfect player to roll the dice on.

And Boozer would just laugh at the prospect of playing in Charlotte. Miami, Chicago, New York/New Jersey...Charlotte.

I posted this in another thread...

I would think Boozer would rather stay here than play in Toronto & as S&T for David Lee won't help our team.
A S&T for Eddy Curry (expiring ~12M) & Wilson Chandler is appealing (tradable assets) than having Millsap & Lee on the court together.

He averaged 6.5 points and 6.3 rebounds per game last season.

My bad, I totally got the years wrong when looking at the article:

Chandler, 27, had his best statistical year during the 2007-08 season, averaging 11.8 points and 11.8 rebounds per game while shooting 63 percent from the field. At the time, he was considered one of the best defensive centers in the NBA. However, Chandler has struggled with injuries the last two seasons in New Orleans and Charlotte.

The guy is only 27 years old. If his health is starting to improve I still think Utah has to take a look at it.

Damn, he'll make 12 3/4 million dollars. I'll pass on that.
And the Jazz would pay $12.75M in tax penalties UNLESS they could dump AK at the deadline. NO! NO! NO!

Let Boozer and Korver walk. Then at the deadline, the Jazz have the flexibility to TRADE AK's expiring, not try to do a salary dump. What's the difference?

A. Salary dump - refer to Harpring/Maynor and Brewer. Jazz forced to GIVE UP assets to reduce their tax penalty.

B. Trade - team B offers Utah a couple of players with 2-3 yrs left on their contracts and perhaps draft picks so THEY can reduce their payroll for 2011. Jazz can do that because they'd be very near the tax threshold. In fact, under the 115% rule, I think Utah would only need to take back around $15M. That could very well put Utah under the tax limit for 2010.

NO....No....NO...The guy is always injured, he has a terrible contract, he has never proven to be a winner, he has no offenisve game unless you run and he has an attitude that would not please Jerry. Then why?
