USU at Utah 2013

I'm going Utah State by 10. I liked the tape of Joe Hill I watched at RB earlier today and that was really the one thing I was wondering about them. If he shows up, Utah State wins.

Joe Hill is faster than Kerwynn Williams is/was (and much bigger). With the entire offensive line returning I expect some pretty nice holes to be opened for him. Hopefully he can make some big plays. I think a key for this game for the Aggies is the receivers. If they can make some plays the offense should be fine. The O-line is good, qb is good, rb is good (pretty deep here actually), te's are good. The D is solid at all positions, imho. Special teams could be a problem but since we got rid of our st coach I think we improved there. Does all this add up to a win on Thursday, who knows, that's why they play the game. But for those who aren't USU fans, what weaknesses do you see on this team? I am interested to hear what you think.

On a side note, Kerwynn's little brother ended up at USU. He broke all of Kerwynn's high school records... He's tiny but he's quick and shifty. Look for him to make a name for himself in the next year or so.

I'm starting to feel like no matter what Utah does on Thursday, the haters will still be hating.

Obviously if Utah State wins, we're gonna hear plenty about how Utah sucks. If Utah wins, it's all gonna be about Gary Anderson being gone, etc.

well... isn't that how fan bases have always worked?

To a degree, but I think we know enough about Utah State to say for sure that they're a good team. Credit should be given to Utah should they win considering so many people are picking the Utes to lose.

A perfect example of what I'm talking about would be BYU's opening day opponent in Virginia. While everybody is pretty sure they're awful, there is a lot that isn't known about them. New offensive system, new defensive system and a new Special Teams coach at the helm. Now don't get me wrong, BYU has NO BUSINESS losing to that team, but if they do, maybe Virginia goes on to win 7 or 8 games and all of a sudden it doesn't look like that bad of a loss. I think USU is a lock to be a 8 or 9 win team. Maybe even 10 if they beat Utah, but if Utah wins that game, all we're gonna hear is excuses.

I think you are wrong.... I think mostly everyone around here thinks that usu is pretty good.
If utah wins then I will say it was a nice win against a good team.
If utah loses then I will say that usu is a team to look out for and utah lost to a good team.
(Picking utah to win, 20-17)
I think usu is more respected that you think they are

As the favorite, at home, against a small conference team. This is a game Utah should win and it's going to be a long season if they don't, as Utah St is one of the easiest teams on the schedule (not a knock on Utah St, Utah's schedule is difficult this season).

This is how hard I took the loss at Utah State last year:

If Utah loses this year, Whitt's job should seriously be re-evaluated. If USU has "caught up" to Utah, after Utah has joined the PAC-12, gotten more money, better recruits, better facilities, and everything else we've been told the last 3 years, then Whitt has not done his job. There is no reason why Utah should be losing to a school like Utah State. None at all. Especially with Andersen gone.

Now, that being said, I believe in Whitt. I believe he is a fantastic coach, and has done a great job at Utah (though he has made some horrible mistakes). I also believe this saying:

"Even a broken clock is right twice a day."

Utah 34 - USU 17

Truth.

I was in vegas last year when the utes played usu and dropped 50 bucks on the utes..... I was pretty pissed until I realized I was in vegas, so I went to the pool and had some drinks.

Also this was the time when byu was playing weber state and I wanted to put 50 on byu to cover but the sports book said they don't take bets in weber state games at all...... byu covered

Oh and though I know nobody cares.... I also wanted to bet on a game (can't even remember who was playing) that the favorite was favored by like 60 pts (I was taking the underdog) and vegas woild not let me bet on that game either. (Would have won that one too.)

Here's the thing. When Scott Barnes got to USU he and Kent Stanley (assistant AD) took a look at all the schools who had been successful over the last couple of years. They identified 7 things that they all had in common. USU finished number 7 this last spring with their new weight and conditioning center. After they identified list of 7, they knew they had to find a coach who could take them in the right direction and they found GA. Knowing that their plan would succeed, they knew that they would have to replace Gary within 5 years. The plan was to have someone waiting in the wings to promote the second Gary left. Matt Wells was introduced as the new coach before Gary was in Wisconsin.

My whole point of this is that I don't believe (and I certainly could be wrong) that last season was a fluke for USU. They have had a plan in place and what we are now seeing is the results of that plan. We have gone from coaches who were just hoping to "keep it close in the fourth quarter so we could have a chance to win" to where we expect to win. After years and years of administrations who didn't care about the football program and AD's who had no plan we've finally turned things around. Hopefully it shows on the field tomorrow...

lol, I doubt he would take Utah St. at the current Vegas line of Utah -2 1/2.

Exactly. What kind of crank jolly roger operation is the UGLI Sportsbook running? I don't like that game to bet on anyway. Why would I take Utah State when the BYU line looks a lot more favorable? If you want to do college football betting right, you never bet single games. You pick 3 spreads or O/U's a week and try to hit at least 2.

That's the other thing I was curious about. What's the scoop there? You guys mainly going to have possession type WR's this year or is there somebody that has been lighting up camp?

How much is Virginia favored by?
