What's new

Utah@Arizona- Sat, Oct 19

Kind of surprised because from what I've seen from KWHITT he does usually make the more ballsy calls right? At least that's been my impression over the years.

And that does it. Horrible coaching decision by Whit to not go for it on 4th and 4 with 4 minutes left in AZ territory.

In the words of Hot Rod...

"And it's all over almost here!"

Nice choke job defense.

You completely sleep walk through most of this game, roll with one of the least inspired offensive play calling I've seen, for some odd reason attempt a FG under 4 mins left while losing by 4 pts (Did Kyle forget that they only court for 3 pts?), and let a pretty crappy AZ team kick your ***. Methinks the team read too many of its own headlines this week.

As good of a win last week was this is almost as bad of a loss.

And Rich Rod is a ****

*sigh* well I missed my prediction after that give up play and missed FG, I said they'd run the clock out because the D will be demoralized that they gave you the position to win the game and you bitched out, instead the D gave up the TD.

It's part of Whittingham's strategy: give up the quick score so the Utes can get the ball back, score a quick TD, then go for the onside kick. It's absolutely brilliant!

The commentators just said Dres Anderson?

Who's that?

Is he a Utah player? Is he a WR? Oh. Interesting. I don't think I heard his name called for the entire game. Guess Dennis's game plan was to avoid getting the ball to Utah's best playmaker.

What a boring, uninspired, and just horrible effort both by the players and coaches... Offensively and defensively.

Bad bad BAADDDD loss.

I love Whitt. But he will lose his job because he decided that getting players to play your most important position isn't important. With Wilson, Utah is able to compete and beat top 5 teams. Without a QB, we are just as crappy as we have been the last two years.

Last year, he had Wilson all spring and summer and went with Hays.

This year, we had Cox all spring and summer and he went with Schultz.

Wake up Whitt. Talent wins games. Not walkons with no talent but what ever the hell he thinks they have. Give your team a chance.

At least with Cox, when you run the same damn play over and over again, Cox is a threat to run with the ball.

Funny.

You could replace "Whitt" with "Bronco" and no one would notice...

The problem isn't with Utah's offense. It's been good for the most part. The defense? With the exception of the game against Stanford and maybe BYU... Has sucked.

Defense is supposedly Kyle's strong point. Yet...

You can't keep giving up 30+ pts and expect to beat anybody. Unless you're Oregon and putting up 50+.

The problem with the Utes is that they make just avg offenses look like Oregon's. Even avg QBs and RBs end up looking like Peyton and Adrian.

Travis Wilson and the offense could score 80 percent of the time and still lose because the defense allows opposing offenses to score 100 percent of the time.

You also have to have the balls to go for it on that 4 and 4 in AZ territory with 4 minutes left down by 4. The best outcome there in attempting the FG is that he makes it(which he didn't) and the Utes are down by 1 and either kick away or I guess onside it in the hopes that either your defense stops them or you get the ball back on the kick.... I am sorry, that really seems like a long shot to me. It's more likely you eventually lose the game by a point. You have to be ballsier when you have your backup QB in there in that situation. I love Whit too, but that was a bad coaching decision.

Green, the backup QB didn't cost the Utes.

The horrible defense did.

Travis Wilson and the offense played poorly too. That pick 6 was brutally bad.

But that defense which began to show some life lately, went back to what we saw at the start of the season. They're weak against the run and cannot cover the pass to save their lives. You cannot continue to give up 30+ and expect to win. Not unless you're Oregon and are scoring 50+ per game.

Agree. I think recovering an onside kick is a much lower percentage gamble than converting a 4th and 4. Worst case, the Utes don't convert and AZ takes over near the 20. Clock is stopped on change of possession and the Utes still have a shot at stooping them and forcing the punt. Best case, they convert and get to run more time off the clock deep inside AZ territory. AZ either uses up all their TO's stopping the clock - or keeps them and has very little time to march down the field for a FG.

Be mad at me all you want, doesn't change the fact I was right. Thanks for giving my very first neg rep ever.

I am not saying I dislike the coaches or wanted any changes just saying the ONE play call was a give up play, they were afraid of making a mistake and it happened anyway, happens all the time in sports.

Overall this is first PAC12 road game, missing Murphy, Tonga, Scott, Poole out for about 1qtr of time and Wilson hurt his throwing hand yet again. Combine that with the U's D ineptness on 3rd Down and I think the U is lucky not to be losing by more. So I think there is still a glimmer of hope and enough time in the game to turn it around, just not looking very good at the moment.

Sorry for the drunk neg rep bro.

I don't even remember what the play was, I just remember being really really mad and I think it was all your fault.

I owe you 5 pos reps.
