Punch Bowl Re-Filler
Wow. Just realized I'm a top 15 poster.
The Rep Adjustment Power is not your ranking, Bat Fool.

Not buying it. A losing culture suggests your players are good enough to win, but can't win because they've been mentally conditioned to losing all the time. Just because you have a team that isn't very good and mails it in down the stretch of a losing season, doesn't mean you have a losing culture.

The whole losing culture thing was beaten to death when GS was tanking, and low and behold look at them now. Most of the time when fans blame a losing culture, its simply bad management of personnel, or missing on draft picks, which can happen regardless of rebuilding strategy. Brooklyn, Phoenix and Denver have all been operating the way some Jazz fans would prefer Utah to operate, by, you know, maintaining a winning culture. I'd rather be us, even if there's a risk of having our players permanently brain damaged by a few seasons of losing.
I think that the Jazz would have been a hot mess if they hadn't gotten rid of Corbin. The team quit on him, and no amount of talent acquisition was going to change that.
Snyder has been building a strong team culture that will continue to look better and better as the players develop their individual and team games. I expected this year to be bumpy, and it's played out about as I would have imagined. . . except that Gobert has been even better than I'd imagined. He's a special player, that will become the franchise player tge Jazz have lacked. He makes everyone around him better when he's on the floor. As such, he's the kind of guy that kills a well-executed management tank-job. He wills himself and his teammates to win. I've never had a problem with winning or losing while they go through this process.
I don't really see the Jazz as having a losing culture, but they also don't have enough talent to take the next step. I'm happy to see them figuring it out and developing well. That is more important than wins or losses. I'd like to think that the bench is bad enough that they'll still end up with a top 7 pick, but the Core group might be too good to fall below the truly sad teams or outright tankers. Sucks, but I don't want them to slow down. I want them developing at a clip that makes them a playoff team next year. They're developing a defensive identity and a swagger that makes me proud to be a Jazz fan. DL is really good at scouting draftable prospects and has shown to be aggressive at getting who he wants. I'll reserve judgement until the draft before deciding if the winning is worth it or not.
As a corollary to Hollinger's Power Rankings, his projections shown on the playoff odds page would have us ending up with the #12 pick in the draft, behind all of the non-playoff teams in the East.
Shoot the Jazz dancers too, while you're at it, just to be safe. And Bear.

Not the dancers! Bear? Go ahead
