What's new

Utah @ San Antonio, 4/9/11 6:30 pm

Favors and Hayward are quickly becoming our best players...

CJ another hellish game... 1-5 for 2 points... Yikes...

Couple of things about the game tonight.

1. Did not expect to win playing spurs away, but add Bob Delaney as the ref and the Jazz had no shot.

2. Favors is going to be great.

3. Evans had his best game as a jazz man.

4. Jefferson cannot play the pick and roll to save his life.

5. The game has really changed. The 3 point line wins games. The spurs play one guy down low and 4 guys on the three point line. The big comes to screen for Tony who drives to the hole and either passes to the roller or hits his 3 point shooters. It is amazing to see the spurs coach change their entire team and offense to play the 3 point shot. I was amazed at how many three point shooters the spurs have.

6. Hayward is still too tentative. He needs to shoot more. He also needs to speed up his release. Korver could get his shot fast. Hayward just takes longer.

7. CJ has really struggled since his 40 point game. Go to the hole son.

8. Corbin has really struggled at times with clock management, substitutions, etc. I hope he gets it figured out. He needs to bench Jefferson for defensive lapses.

Actually, the Rockets won their championships in the 90s by doing this. The Dream and 4 other 3-point shooters on the perimeter.

The Spurs have always had three point shooters all the way back to their ealy championship teams with Robinson and Duncan down low. What made those teams so difficult to beat, and why we couldn't beat them for over a decade, was because they could always take it down low and if we'd ever double, they'd throw it out and we all know we don't guard the three-point line. The Spurs are a solid organization that understand the game. They don't get chuckers and they don't take guys looking for a three the first shot down the floor, like much of the NBA. But in contrast, they don't jump to the other end of the spectrum because they resent that kind of play (Sloan). They implement the three pointer to be used efficiently, and picking up guys like Matt Bonner, Steve Kerr, and Brent Barry are great ways to do that. They understand that you can't have too many guys who can play 15 mins/night that can hit the three, despite being "one-dimensional".

Jimmer has San Antonio written all over him.

He's the type of guy they'd pickup. A guy that can come in and for 20 mins rain 3s down on other teams.

We desperately need to get some 3 pt shooters this offseason. Not just one or two, but multiple. The losses of Memo, Korver, and Wes really show in games like these.

Hayward is better with the ball in his hands, CJ is best on the bench, Raja's career is nearly over, and Devin Harris struggles from the outside.

We literally have no one right now that can shoot (consistently) from the outside.

Absolutely, we need 3 ball shooters and we need to use them. I just hope that Ty understands this as ole Jer never really did. Pops has been doing this forever, as has Phil. Get some backups who can drop the long ball. How many times have we seen their backups make big 3s over the years? Many. How often do the Jazz do it? Rarely, except maybe last year with Korver.

Get shooters, no more pure hustle-no skills guys like Ronnie Price. I kinda like Weaver, but even he has to step up his shooting or be gone. We already have one poor shooter, Harris, coming back next year and you cannot have too many of your small who cannot shoot well. One, maybe two max. Having memo back and healthy most of the year would help but who knows if that is gonna happen.

Drafting one and trading for one would be ideal.
None of the three point shooters warrant a 6th pick except Barnes and he is probably not coming out.
At 12 would be a great opportunity though. I would be looking at Lamb first if he declares, then Fredette, and Mirotic.

I would agree.

Watched some of the game last night. Jefferson sucks on defense - it's amazing he's as bad on D as Boozer. I was pleased to see GH playing decent defense. His passing/court vision/defense is better than advertised. He's going to be a good player for a long time, and he's definitely going to improve. I want to see how much Harris improves next year - I don't know how comfortable he is with the offense - his assist number is low. Overall, the Spurs had so many easy shots. It drove me crazy. Jefferson drove me crazy.
