What's new

Utah @ San Diego State

Weird. I could have sworn I heard them telling Wynn during an interview that SDSU was favored and he was surprised. Maybe the line shifted or was just reported wrongly.
Yes it was reported erroneously, I forget which radio station mentioned it (it was either Kall700 or 1320) but basically that person didn't check their source close enough as he read it online posted from a local BYU writer who read the line wrong (didn't understand the + vs -).

Ok so I am not going insane :)

Jordan Wynn struggles under pressure. TCU exposed that in epic fashion.

Can SDSU bring the pressure like TCU did? I doubt it.

The Notre Dame game was a fluke. It was hangover from the TCU game, and it was also horrible weather. Those things combined to be a total meltdown.

The hangover caused a bunch of penalties and stupid mistakes. The weather caused some bad throws by Wynn, and possibly another fumble on a kickoff.

Great weather in San Diego, and it's Wynn's hometown. Look for the Utes to roll.

I hope you are right Salty, I think it's important Wynn starts well to get him out of this funk, otherwise it could be a long night

Boise won 51-0, their defense might be even better than last year

Getting blown out is never a fluke. Losing by a touchdown or a point or something close is a fluke. Never use the word fluke to describe 28-3 blowout.

If they played 10 times, this doesn't happen again. It can only be called a fluke.

The Utes drove to the red zone and couldn't get into the end zone, several times. You won't see the Utes get 10 penalties in the first half, or multiple failed 4th down conversions, for the rest of the season. Seeing them both in the same game is a fluke.

If you consider rain great weather. Apparently the Ute's don't because as of now they have already given up 20 points and don't look like they could stop a baby from escaping a crib.

Bailed out by a horrible playcall. Right before the interception was thrown I told my dad that if San Diego didn't turn the ball over they'd win.

They were getting 10-15 yards a pass competition and were on the march. Instead, they got greedy and tried the deep ball. Dumb. Even if it's completed for a touchdown they would have left 1:30 for Utah to score.

Next weekend is going to be great!

This sets up an interesting rivalry week. Utah's secondary is obviously beyond awful at this point, and I'm sure all of the Jake Heaps fan boys will be touting that all week long, but the bottom line is this: As awful as Utah's secondary is currently is playing, my opinion is that BYU does not have the players at the skill positions to make Utah pay for it (at least not as bad as they've paid in the past 3 weeks).

Obviously TCU's talent was better across the board and their WR's are certainly better than what Utah will face against BYU. Notre Dame runs a much more complex passing offense when compared to BYU's and even though I'd still call ND a bad football team, they certainly have more talent at WR as well. I'd also take the experience of Lindley and the SDSU WR's over what BYU brings to the table.

With that being said, it's still bad enough that Heaps will get some yards and Utah certainly won't be able to "mail it in" this week. While Utah has started trending down at the exact same time BYU has started trending up, it's still fair to say that Utah is the more talented football team- just not as much as we originally thought.

Rivalry games are tough, but if you go through the archives you'll see two things that will usually set a team apart in these type of games: Experience and Talent. Sorry Coug fans, but Utah has the advantage in both areas.

Utes win. The end.

I commend you for going out on such a tremendous limb.

Uhhh thanks?

They still had to score. But considering that Utah couldn't cover SD's WRs or put pressure on the QB to save their life it was going to be over. Seriously, you have to admit, if SD keeps running those quick 10-15 yard passes you leave SD tonight with a fat L.

A retarded play call was all that was the only thing that saved you tonight. And yes, it was retarded. Even if the safety falls down and he walks into the endzone, SD leaves 1:30 on the clock for you to score. that play call made absolutely no sense. I'm sure the newspapers will be talking about it in SD tomorrow.

while the newspapers in SLC will be spinning saying how the might Utes are BACCCKKKK. lol. I saw things that Heaps and Annai are going to exploit next weekend. Whether it will be enough to end Utah's MWC career with a loss to their arch rival, we'll soon see. I'm excited! I will go out on a limb and say that this one is going to be close. No way Utah blows BYU out. Wouldn't have said that earlier this year. But it's clear that both these teams are pretty evenly matched.
