What's new

Utah @ San Diego State

That was as gutsy as a road win as you can get. The play when we had them backed up at their own 10 and they throw it up to Vincent Brown with 2 defenders on him and he miraculously catches a tipped ball would have been a back breaker for most teams. But this team fought back and made the plays they needed. Major props to the guy who blocked the punt and Eddie Wide.

Memo to Coug fans on a few topics:

-Your team has strung together a few good wins in a row, however those wins are against the exact same dregs that you were giving Utah no credit for blowing out. Serious question, and I wonder if there is a BYU fan on here who actually has the stones to give me an honest answer: How come when Utah pummels UNLV, CSU and New Mexico they're simply living off of a bad schedule, and when BYU beats them the Cougs have turned the corner and are now unstoppable? Seriously, you can't have it both ways.

-Dodgers, I know you're a blind homer, but it's even a reach for you to be touting BYU's WR's at this point. I'll say it again and I believe it's a solid FACT: BYU's skill position players don't even compare with what Utah's faced in the last 3 weeks.

-Utah is the more talented team, but even if you'd like to lie to yourself and try to debate that, there is no denying that this BYU squad is extremely young and green. Especially when it comes to such a big time rivalry game. There is no denying that Utah has these guys hands down in terms of experience.

-Utah's got the homefield advantage, an overwhelming experience advantage and for those who are honest enough to admit it, they've also got the talent advantage. I don't think it will be a blow out, but there's certainly enough in Utah's favor that I feel very good about Utah's chances.

I'll address these. I like to think of myself as a fan who isn't a homer (though my views are probably tinted blue).
-There's no doubt BYU is living off the weaker schedule now. What gives me hope is that it looks like BYU is playing better now. Is that given to the teams they are playing suck really bad? You betcha. But it does look like they're playing better. Hard to know for sure if they've actually turned the corner or if it's a product of scheduling.
-I can't argue that Utah isn't the better team right now. BYU is very young. I think they had less than 12 total seniors this year. Experience certainly does not guarantee a win in any game, especially a rivalry game.
-I would much prefer to see this game at Lavell Edwards Stadium as opposed to Rice Eccles. Throughout this season, BYU has played much better at home than on the road. But I still like our chances.
Overall, I still think Utah comes away with the win in this one. But the performances over the last three weeks by both teams have given me some hope.

Wow, Duck, do you really feel okay about going there?

Edit: Yeah, what Salty said...
For the life of me I couldn't figure out what play he was talking about until Salty mentioned the goal line play. I have that recorded and not seeing it Duck, first the ball crossed the plane before being knocked out and 2nd and like Salty said the refs ruled his forward progress stopped and elbow down so on both accounts I'm REALLY not seeing it.

As for that hailmary I know Trout is just stirring the pot but I also wouldn't expect that he watched the game so the tip giveth and taketh away in that 3rd Qtr the Aztecs had the samething happen to them, QB gets hit as he throws it and 2 Ute DB's go for the INT but knock it away from each other and right to the Aztec receiver and he runs 50yrds for a TD.
I thought for sure that was going to be the back breaker and at that time the U defense hadn't stopped them on 3rd down or from scoring a TD on every possession so I was bracing myself for a loss.

Thriller on that last INT I'm not sure if it was a bad play call as much as a bad decision by the QB, he had other WR's that he could throw to he just got pressured and made a bad choice (good if your a U fan).

+2

While we may not agree on everything, at least you had the sack to come in and make a decent argument for the Cougs.
