Utah Trade Deadline Discussion

Call me crazy but I would love to get Jae Crowder and Iman Shumpert here. I think the mountain air might revitalize them a bit. Both these guys can defend and shoot the three, or at least that's how I remember them (I haven't watched much Cavs basketball recently).

Kevin Love would also be a great fit next to Gobert.

I have no desire for Tristan Thompson. I just have never liked watching him play.

Dunc'd On did another Jazz trade today

Utah in: Tristan Thompson, Kyle Korver, 2018 Cleveland 1st round pick
Utah out: Derrick Favors, Alec Burks

Also had discussions with Philly about Jerryd Bayless. The person representing Philly said they would do Favors for Bayless and either Luwawu-Cabarrot or Anzejs Pasecniks or Justin Anderson, but they were kind of iffy about that. Bucks would be interested, but their 1st rounder is too valuable and matching salaries would be tough.

They weren't really enthusiastic about any of these and they implied that there wouldn't be a huge market for Favors.
This is horrific! This is fireable offense the day it happens. WTF? We just added 13M of useless salaries for the 2018-2019 year and 26M of useless salaries for 2019-2020 while giving up Favors.

This is 40 freaking million of negative/useless salaries we added. FOURTHY MILLION!!! For a late first. WTF?

Given all this Wizards talk, it seems there's some obvious discontent going on there. Who says no to this trade? One caveat that I think helps for Washington is they like Kelly Oubre. This would also allow more of an opportunity for him.

Wizards Receive: Derrick Favors, Rodney Hood, Joe Johnson, Alec Burks
Jazz Receive: Otto Porter, Marcin Gortat, Jodie Meeks.

You could also make it work with additional draft picks somewhere in there.

I like it Roy. The only change I would make is replace Meeks with Frazier and Mac. http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=ybx6clfm

We do this for multiple reasons:
#1 - Mac and Frazier are expirings
#2 - its a 4 for 4 trade so neither team would have to waive a player or do an additional move to make it work
#3 - this lets Washington shed more contracts and gets them about out of the luxury. We might be able to switch our 2nd for their 1st if we help them avoid the luxury and take Gortat.

Yeah, I like that better too because of the expiring contracts. I personally think that deal could make some real sense for both sides.

So here's a list of trade ideas I've thrown together that all work via salary. A lot of these deals are structured in a way that make sense because of expiring contracts, teams trying to dump salary, etc. So the contract details are important.

Jazz receive: Otto Porter, Marcin Gortat, Tim Frazier, Sheldon Mac
Wizards receive: Derrick Favors, Rodney Hood, Joe Johnson, Alec Burks

http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=ybx6clfm

(The Wizards are underperforming and have some serious team issues. Beal’s GF was even calling out Gortat’s poor play via twitter. They need a shakeup and desperately need a guy like Favors. They’re also big on Kelly Oubre. Moving Otto Porter would give Oubre more a chance to shine. Frazier and Mac’s deals are expiring).

Jazz Receive: Reggie Jackson, Stanley Johnson, Henry Ellenson, Eric Moreland
Pistons Receive: Rodney Hood, Ricky Rubio, Joe Johnson

http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=y7ne8am3

(It’s no secret the Pistons are eager to dump Reggie Jackson’s contract and they have team chemistry issues. Henry Ellenson was a high draft pick a few years ago who hasn’t materialized but can shoot outside. Stanley Johnson has also been a disappointment for them.)

Jazz receive: Kevin Love, Jae Crowder
Cavs Receive: Rodney Hood, Derrick Favors, Joe Johnson, Tony Bradley, Jazz 1st round pick lottery protected for two years and then turns into a 2nd rounder.

Jazz receive: Evan Fournier, Bismack Biyombo, Jonathan Simmons
Magic receive: Rodney Hood, Alec Burks, Derrick Favors, Joe Johnson

http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=yaz7tj7t

(Bismack Biyombo is a bad contract that Magic seem eager to get rid of. This deal compensates the Jazz additionally for taking on his poor contract.)

Jazz receive: Nikola Mirotic
Bulls Receive: Tony Bradley, Derrick Favors

http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=ydgb2qjx

Jazz receive: Avery Bradley
Pistons receive: Rodney Hood, Joe Johnson

http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=y8vc5ugh

Jazz Receive: Timothy Luwawu-Cabarrot, Jerryd Bayless, Brooklyn’s 2nd round pick
76ers Receive: Derrick Favors, Jazz 2nd round pick

http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=yadz5zup

Jazz Receive: Nikola Mirotic, Jae Crowder
Cavs Receive: Derrick Favors, Rodney Hood
Bulls Receive: Cavs 1st round pick, Channing Frye

I don't like the Detroit deals at all. The Orlando deal is also bad imo. I wouldn't do the Cleveland deal either.

The others are fine.

Merging multiple ideas I wonder if Philly would go for this:

Philly to Utah: 1st round pick in 2018 (top 10 protected), TLC, Bayless
Utah to Philly: Favs, Hood

I know Philly wants to take a big swing in FA, but they need to ensure they make the playoffs to convince a star that the future is bright. Let's be honest... they have a a very low chance at landing a star and Hood is a good backup plan and fits really well. They also have a roster spot crunch next year. This deal actually clears some cap space because Rodney's cap hold is so low.

Well Cousins went down for the year with a torn achilles. Favors would be a nice pickup for the Pelicans. Too bad they have no expiring contracts to match up with Favors. Asik + Jackson for Favors is the only thing that really makes sense and I don't know if the Jazz want Jackson bad enough to take on the last year of his (Asik's) contract in 2018 then the 3 million guaranteed in 2019. Maybe the Pelicans would do Favors + Hood for Jackson/Asik/1st round pick? Could the Jazz do better tho? IDK.

Good post Cy. Favors makes a ton of sense. Hood and Favors would be massive for them in response to losing Boogie.

Favors and Hood for Asik, Jackson and their unprotected 1st.

Ehh, doubt we could get it unprotected. Maybe like top 10 protected or something? Turns into something else if it doesn't convey and all that.
