Tell me if I understand this correctly. Niko has a no trade clause. He seems to want to play in Utah, correct? Bulls want a first in any deal involving Niko, Niko can just turn down any good offer, and I'm sure he'd like to stick it to the bulls as I'm sure the relationship is strained, so he needs to go. In my mind the jazz should be able to wait out the bulls and trade Favors straight up, no need to involve other teams as far as I see it.

If they pick up his team option he no longer has a no trade... NO needed the flexibility so that was a game changer for them. It shouldn't have been though... unless the guy gets hurt they could dump his salary this offseason. Then again in NO injuries abound so they might be overly cautious.

It's not really a no-trade clause. He can veto a trade because he's on a one-year contract (unless his option is picked up). If they pick up his option, he has no say. NO wants salary relief. He doesn't want to lose his bird rights [this is actually funny that everyone is in a panic about him only being a rental here because all accounts say he wants to be here and he doesn't want to lose his bird rights], so he vetoes trades that don't pick up his option. It's quite possible someone swoops in who would want his extra year -- he would have no veto power.

So NO is 600k from the tax... signing Monroe would put them over the tax line no? They would need to offload a little current year salary in a deal. Doesn't make sense to jump into the tax... maybe they pay someone to take clark or Allen.

In all seriousness though, if that's what he wants we should try to oblige. I have great respect for Joe. Class act and a true professional. It just sucks if he does go. I really wanted to see him retire here.

I think we are in a good position here still. We have enough middling assets to make up the difference. I would have thought a deal for Favs would get done yesterday, but if Monroe has a chance to go there then it makes sense that NO would wait.

If NO bows out I don't see another team stepping in with a first. Maybe Portland, but they will want to send back Harkless or Leonard and those deals might be more onerous than Asik's. Harkless less so because I think he's a decent player but just overpaid.

#1 - Until Chicago or an acquiring team exercises Mirotic's salary for 2018-19, Mirotic has a no trade clause.
#2 - Mirotic wants whoever trades for him to pick up his option for 2018-19.
#3 - New Orleans didn't want to do that since they were doing the trade more to dump Asik and Ajinca than to add Mirotic.
#4 - Trade could not be completed since Mirotic's agents said no.

Niko wants his team option picked up for next year. NO just wants a Niko rental so they can re-sign Boogie this offseason.
