Utah Trade Deadline Discussion

The New York Knicks and center Joakim Noah seem to be at an impasse that may be unrepairable. Noah and Knicks head coach Jeff Hornacek were reported to have gotten into a very heated exchange that ended up with Noah being sent home. A league source familiar with the Knicks’ thinking suggested New York may be open to giving up their first-round pick this year to offload Noah without needing to buy him out or carry a monster cap hit. The prevailing thought was the Knicks wouldn’t be bad enough to land one of the gems of the draft class, and with so much youth on the roster now, a one year hit to jettison Noah seems to be at least under consideration.

Anything else we could ask for in this deal?

I'm confused. Why didn't the trade between chi. And No. not go through? I thought Niko turned it down. If the team can just pick up his option to get rid of the trade clause, why didn't they? Am I missing something? I am pretty dumb when it comes to all this weird trading crap.

NO didn’t want to pick up the team option so he said no... they could change their mind and there’d be nothing he could do.

They'd just trade him to Chicago.

Geez! Is a ny first really worth having that nightmare on the team? I can't decide.

Noah has arguably the worst contract in the league at $19 mil per for two more seasons. Would have to give me more than just their unprotected 1st honestly.

For Joe's sake I hope the Jazz can move him. He kinda stinks, and rigor mortis has set in. He's always been iffy defensively (at Utah) defending quick people, but this year he's amped it up to Kanter level. I think he's mentally checked out because Utah has been bad. I've watched him since his days in Phoenix and I never have seen him miss this percentage of open shots.

Honestly no. I don't think the Knicks would have nearly enough that would make taking on Noah worth it. That is by far and away the worst contract in the NBA right now I think.

He's UFA next year and he wouldn't resign so get anything you can out of it, even if it's only a second rounder. Time to fire sale all of our expiring for assets.

This is extremely bold and pretty much keeps us out of free agency the next two years (would we be players anyway?):

Burks and Thabo for Noah, NY's top 1 protected 2018 pick, and a future pick swap
then
Joe Johnson for Asik, Jackson and NOLA's top 10 protected 2018 1st.
then
Asik and the NOLA pick to Chicago for Mirotic.....

We would add about $19 million in contracts for next year (Noah+Mirotic+Jackson-Burks) and $19 for 2019, but we gain a promising PG in Jackson, a top 10 pick and We could probably stretch Noah before summer 2019.

Niko wants his team option picked up for next year. NO just wants a Niko rental so they can re-sign Boogie this offseason.

I think they actually liked having the option... so if Boogie booted they could sell AD on at least they have Niko.

They honestly should just gonthe other way and trade AD to rebuild. With what they have now they will never be able to put enough around him to make sense and I think that Boogie contract is going to be really bad for whoever signs him.

If you are the Cavs would you rather lose Lebron or get something back for him? I could see Gilbert being petty enough just to lose him rather than trade him to the Warriors, but as a franchise the latter is much smarter.
Yeah, I'd want something back, but I don't want Iguodala, and Klay doesn't really have that much value on an expiring contract on what's destined to be a tanking team.
