Utah Trade Deadline Discussion

You’re back to asking for peanuts again. The only deal I’m looking for is a top down one. Otto Porter can help us, but it’s not worth taking on Gortat’s last year for a late 1st round pick.

We look like one of the top 4 teams in the league right now. Why mess with that for anything less than a haul?

If all it took to get Porter was to take Gortat, I would do that all day long. Porter next to Hobert is sick. Unless I read your post wrong, which is possible.

I don't think Patterson would be involved. Abrines and Singler are extremely expendable. If we added Patterson, we probably don't get anything back in terms of draft compensation.

I would do Abrines and Singler. I just think most nights AB is tough to play. Abrines stretches the floor and Singler could be stretched or waived in the offseason.

The Jazz decide not to make a move because of the expectation that there won't be a lot of money available in free agency and we can keep our guys for cheap. Free agency comes and as always teams find a way to throw ridiculous money at players. Someone throws 17-20 mill per at Hood, maybe more. The Jazz feel obligated to match and not lose another player. The contract becomes a large albatross for the entirety of Rudy's prime.

^^^ My worst fear.

Trade Burks and Johnson for any 2nd rounder you can get.
Trade Hood: I'm sure a really good pick can be attained. He's a RFA, young and when he's hot he's HOT. GMs fall in love with that.
Keep Favors: supposedly there is no interest from other teams. I say we end up keeping him at a good price.
Keep Rubio, O'Neale, Udoh, Jerebko, Sefolosha, etc.

You get to the next draft with a good amount of draft picks and then reassess the situation.

I think we can improve just by not playing Joe Johnson and cutting the guy loose.

I need something good to move Hood and Favs at this point. I'd sell AB for expirings or partially expirings. Or like just something different... maybe Jared Dudley or Garrett Temple. Like I'd send a second round pick with AB for Temple right now... he isn't owed as much and is a functional/reliable rotation guy.

Looking at the 2018 free agency class, I think most of the big names will end up staying right where they are knowing full well the lack of money available.

KD- I think he opts in to his player option
LeBron- I think he opts in to his player option. Unless he's willing to go to a different contender for cheap.
PG- I think he opts in to his player option
Melo- The Thunder pick up his team option
Boogie- I think he re-signs in NO
CP3- Stays in Houston
Clint Capela- Stays in Houston

DeAndre Jordan and Isaiah Thomas *could move elsewhere.

But I see the bulk of the available free agency money being thrown at guys like Aaron Gordon, Jabari Parker, RODNEY HOOD, and others in like that second tier of free agency.

I don't think that would be a smart move. He's played well in small spurts before. This could still be a mirage. Like I said I'm open to keeping him and seeing how he closes out the year. But I think he's making enough money that extending him would be a big risk that could cap out your championship ceiling. You just can't risk that for a guy with his history at this point. If he plays close to this level for the rest of the year, commits himself to getting better over the summer and then starts off next year playing the same way I'd consider an extension at that point.
