Utah Trade Deadline Discussion

The article wasn't even that bad... I think Hood is approaching this as fairly as anyone would. Unlike others have suggested, I don't think his comments in the article were unprofessional. He said (paraphrasing) "I've enjoyed my time in Utah" "I look forward to play wherever I am, whether in Utah or somewhere else" etc. No bad mouthing, no demanding of trade... and frankly he was held out for a half dozen games when we started winning more and has been the most consistent name in trade rumors, its not unreasonable for him to feel that way

Hood is good as gone if that report is true. He might feel isolated because everybody adores Mitchell and there is a crew of Rubio, Mitchell, Ingles, O'Neale, Jerekbo, Udoh and maybe a few others that really, really get along. You can tell by their social media. Hood is never mentioned.
Don’t agree, Donovan and Royce are definetly better friends but Hood and Donovan seem to be somewhat close as well. The fact fans adore Mitchell so much may make him feel isolated especially after being booed.

Ill be disappointed if we trade Hood for just a 1st round pick unless its a lottery pick or potential lottery pick.

For me its maybe like 18-20 cut off. But yeah basically the same. I'd be fine with him walking after getting offered a decent deal (Fournier) than getting back some deal like Kanter's for example.

There is no GM in the world that would rank Udoh over Favs.
I probably wouldn't either. I was just saying why it isn't a really easy choice. Favs is more skilled offensively, but his style of game is out of fashion as a 4. For the Jazz he can't really play in his most effective position because Rudy is in his way. That's all I'm saying. Udoh is definitely a better defender at the 5 position, and his game mirrors what Rudy brings in a lot of ways. 48 minutes of that might be really nice to have.

I mean the warriors pay a lot for Iggy... you mentioned Manu. Cleveland has had some expensive bench pieces.

With Rubio there are times you'd want to run DM at PG and having Evan next to him is great. Might even go without a PG and put Ingles and Evan out there are times. I think he'd still get starter minutes and while he is paid well as a 6th man I think he'd be better than our 6th best player.

I think it would be ideal to have someone like that off the bench actually.

We have Ingles... and Thabo...

what lopo says makes sense to me.
We lose hood and need some depth since we are trying to make the playoffs so we add mario. We dont actually lose thabo because he isn't actually playing anyway. We pick him up after orlando lets him go if we want him back.

Not that hard to follow imo. I can understand some people seeing a small amount of risk from losing thabo, a player we all like, but i mean we are playing pretty good without him right now imo and he is kinda old and coming off a pretty serious injury. Plus it would seem like we would have a decent chance of getting him back if we really wanted to. Not a certainty (hence the small risk) but a decent chance anyway.
If we dont get him back then its not a huge franchise changing deal breaker or anything. Royce has taken over for thabo pretty good imo.

Then there is the possibility that mario turns things around and we develop him.

I don't have a problem with getting Mario. He played well last game 20 pts. 5 rebounds. If the Jazz trade Hood, they will need a replacement. I think Mario got swallowed up with a big ego being a star in Europe and then coming to NBA with high expectations. The fans turned on him and he didn't play well.

I like Thabo but he may not be the same player after his injury. Yes there is a risk but it isn't like Thabo is a star or anything. I think some Jazz fans are too attached to him to see that he is replaceable. Besides O'neil has played well, so he can get more minutes if we miss out on Thabo being released. If Mario sucks, then the damage is minimal. If he goes somewhere else and plays well then we might be kicking ourselves.

Agreed if the Jazz think he’s going to be overpaid you do have to trade him. Rodney has been good while he’s been here, but what Donovan turns into going forward also plays into the decision. I think Donovan will be able to go to the point, but he’s struggling with running an offense right now especially down the stretch when he gets pressured. If we are keeping Dante (which I think and hope we are) you can’t overpay for Hood. Hood is a good player and for a reasonable price he’s worth keeping around, but not once that price passes a certain threshold that jeprodizes franchise flexibility.

The Warriors are a bit different because of their having 4 All-Stars (3 before KD) situation.

But I think there's reason to believe that he may NOT be overpaid. Which is why just unloading him for less than stellar assets doesn't really appeal to me.
