at least you're not questioning the importance of the official state flag, motto or dessert ;-)


anyhow, no real reason other than I figured all states already have official state flowers, trees and birds so their legislators wouldn't be wasting time discussing these issues


by the way, do Oklahomans tend to be fat? they have 10 official state meals (including BBQ pork, chicken fried steak and sausage & gravy) plus a state pie (in addition to a state fruit and a state vegetable, but after all that other stuff, why bother?)
and North Carolinians seem to be very bipartisan - they have an official red berry and an official blue berry

really, there are only FIVE or SIX official state things that are needed:

a state flower
a state tree
a state bird
a state flag
a state motto

maybe a state insect (I'm not convinced this is really necessary though)

and definitely a state dessert (though I'm not really sure any state has figured that one out yet)

well, this is instructive, apparently 4 states have named an official state dessert: Maryland, Massachusetts, Missouri, and South Dakota

Can any of you name Utah's official state fruit? snack food? vegetable? historic vegetable?
(btw, possibly another first - Utah seems to be the only state with any sort of official state historic food item)

Didn't look it up. But is the Sugar Beet in there somewhere? EDIT: Yep, it's out state's historic vegetable. I think I actually know most of our State's official stuff.
