Utes 2011 Football Discussion

Perhaps you should focus on your beloved Coug's and their offensive woes or the fact that once again you're secondary looks weak in coverage. Ole Miss was returning the worst defense in the SEC and worst red zone D in the entire nation and you guys managed a whopping 1 TD. I realize BYU is getting a bit of a pass because they beat an SEC team on the road, but that's a bit of fools gold IMO. Ole Miss looks to be every bit as bad as their 4 win team from last year.

I think most Ute fans (Salty excluded of course) understand just how bad things look for us offensively. You're really not telling us anything new. However, I will say this: If Jordan Wynn or whomever is playing QB for the Utes in week 3 can get the ball deep, BYU's secondary can be exploited. That true freshman from Ole Miss was 5 yards behind BYU's secondary when he dropped that easy TD. He holds onto that routine catch, and BYU is leaving Mississippi with a loss to a pretty bad football team. Lots of work for the Cougs to do behind their front 7.

It's incredible how Ute fans are so paranoid and defensive when it comes to their team.

Can we seriously not have discussions about these topics anymore without someone just labeling a poster a "blind hater" and attacking the other team?

If Jordan Wynn or whomever is playing QB for the Utes in week 3 can get the ball deep

Three years into his career and we're still waiting for this to happen. You're reminding me of the AK or CJ crowd...

"If only CJ could play within the offense and be more consistent..." or "If only Ak could play with more passion, get into shape, and develop his offensive game..."

If last year's game against BYU didn't prove this to you, I don't know what else will (maybe a blowout against a pretty horrible USC team?). The Wynn isn't the answer. He lacks confidence and the intangibles to be a QB. That's why Chow has been kissing his *** this whole offseason to try and instill confidence. That's why Utah has been shuffling QBs for a long time to try and find an answer. In the last reg season game last year, the Utes were playing musical chairs at QB allowing everyone from Wynn to the waterboy to have a crack at it.

I'd like to see Utah do well, but Wynn at QB screams lack of confidence. It gives me the impression that this Utah team is going to struggle to put points up against anybody. Folks, you ain't gonna be playing Montana every week in the Pac-12.

Not getting pulled in as this is a Ute thread... well not until next week when they actually play each other.

But came in to say not to forget that the RB was suspended last week so that could be a likely reason they did not run the ball often and now that he's back, guess we'll have to see but I'm sure they'll call more run attempts.

I'm not sure it's 80%

The question is, if the guy isn't at 100% then why the hell is Utah playing him? I don't know much about John Hayes, but I would rather take my chances with a 100% Tyler Shreve in there as a freshman as opposed to an 80-90% Jordan Wynn.

I'm concerned don't get me wrong but I'm not at the level some of you are yet, now after this week against USC I could end up being that but I'm willing to wait a bit longer. Again new OC with a new offensive philosophy, have to give him time to adjust to that as well get confident with it but if his confidence/demeanor continues to seem playing conservative/scared eventually they'll have to pull the plug.

But hopefully he gets some of that Freshman exuberance and confidence back and then I think he'll be good enough.

You guys should bottle them up pretty easily. He is a pansy *** big dude that likes to dance between the tackles. I hope they throw it until Barkley's arm falls off because none of the running backs at SC right now are very promising.

No, it's not. Pac 12 is not murderer's row. They had an awful week 1 across the board.

No conference but the SEC is (and no conference is stacked, top to bottom), but it is a BCS conference, and for your remaining out-of-conference schedule to be your traditional rival game and a different BCS program that is respectable (but not great), I'd say that's a pretty ****ing tall order for a team that just came from the MWC and doesn't have a QB.

coach Whittingham on Wynn..

https://www.deseretnews.com/article...nces-rest-on-shoulders-of-QB-Jordan-Wynn.html

"Jordan has got to gain confidence in his arm," Whittingham said. "It's not a physical thing now. It's a mental thing. Anybody that's had surgery, whether it be a knee or shoulder, there's a period of time where you've got to (realize), 'Hey, it's better. I can do this. I can cut loose. I can throw the football the way I want to without worrying if there's going to be a twinge of pain or some setback.'

"That's where Jordan is at right now. He's battling through that psychologically. ... It's just a matter of getting over that hump mentally."

Reports are that Wynn has looked tons better in practice.
I hope that is true and hope even more it translates to the field and it mostly can be chalked up to be new offense, new OC with only 1 WR he's familiar with and first game miscues etc...
