Wynn out for the rest of the season is actually a good thing.
The new QB actually has a strong arm and could develop into a good player.
If not, then the Utes can focus this next season into developing a new QB or allowing Wynn to heal.

Yeah Wynn being out for the season is a good thing. The Utes don't need to be changing the QB every few weeks and trying to change the offense to fit the new QB.
The schedule lightens up from this week on, so Hays should look pretty good. Wynn can get medical a redshirt. Next season there will be a bona fide QB battle in camp and the Utes will emerge with some decent depth at the position.
It's not like the Utes will win less games the rest of the season with Hays than they would with Wynn. But switching back and forth could cause the Utes to drop a game they might have otherwise won.

Serious question to Ute fans...
How do you feel about what your coaching staff has done (or hasn't done) to create a competent QB situation? How the hell are you a Div I school who has realistically, only 2 QBs in your system? One has had a history of injuries and the other was just recently playing at Nebraska Omaha?
Do you feel like perhaps too much focus has been on the defense and not enough attention to offense? In particular, the QBs?
If Hays gets injured, who then, becomes your QB? Christopher?
I personally, am shocked that a relatively successful Div I football program is just so empty at the QB spot.

Personally, I think this is EXACTLY why Norm Chow was brought in. Name recognition who's shown the ability to run a pro-style offense and get QB's selected in the NFL draft. Whether he's as good as he used to be probably isn't that important. Kids care about what you've done in the past. This last season, Utah was in the hunt very late for 4-Star QB Michael Eubanks. In fact, some say the Utes felt they had him on signing day and he pulled a last second change of mind and went to Arizona State. Had he chosen Utah, he'd probably be the starter right now.
This year, Utah has a verbal from Travis Wilson out of SoCal. Some sites have him as a 3-star, some as a 4-star. Either way, I think he looks like a better passing QB than Eubanks. I think Chow was the direct reason he gave a verbal to Utah. While I'm certainly bothered by Utah's ability in the past to secure better QB play, I'm more concerned about what they're doing to address it in the future. I think with Chow in place, they have a pretty decent plan moving forward in regards to solidifying the QB position and I think Wilson is the first evidence of that. There's no way Utah lands him with Aaron Roderick as their OC while they're playing in the MWC.
Once Utah does get some of these better QB recruits to come to Utah, I feel they can compete extremely well in the Pac 12. IMO Whittingham and his staff have shown the ability to recruit all of the other positions extremely well with the obvious exception of the QB spot.

There is also Tyler Shreve but I know what the point is your trying to make, yes somebody dropped the ball when it comes to bringing in QB's but some of it is not completely the coaching/recruiting fault. Heading into last year Wynn was looking like the future and would be starting the next 3 yrs so hard to get top notch recruits if they think they'll sit behind him for that long. This year they're feeling it, however the staff figured they had Shreve, Robles and then added Hays to backup Wynn, obviously Robles was moved to the to LB and Wynn got hurt again so it made the situation look worse then the coaches thought it would be.

I would say I've been dissapointed at the lack of QB recruits not only after Wynn got here but even before Wynn arrived, back in 08 Devonte Christopher was the only QB we recruited and he switched position. Whittingham thought he found the solution with Wynn but it obviously hasn't worked out so it's definately hurt us since Pac-12 is a Qb-driven conference...but i'm not ready yet to give up on Hays, I liked his scrambling ability and think he can make the throws, but he needs some more experience under his belt. If he doesn't work out it seems like Shreve will be our only option.
