Utes 2011 Football Discussion

The Utes will easily beat Colorado.
Colorado is 96th in rush defense, and allow 5.2 ypc.
It should be another good game for White.

I'll be honest here...when it's Thanksgiving time that's usually the time my hatred for BYU almost explodes. Having a hard time building up hate towards Colorado.

A few of the Bowl "experts" out there are projecting Utah in the Alamo Bowl against Oklahoma. A couple of thoughts on that:

-How amazing is it that in a year in which Utah starts out 0-and-4 in conference, they still may end up in the Pac's 2nd highest bowl (in terms of payout) against a premier national power?

and...

-Oklahoma would be a nightmare match-up for Utah.

Let's say the O/U for Ute wins next year was 8, what would you Utah fans take? I'm very curious. And will hold you to it if I decide to go in the direction of the masses. I'm guessing most will say the over not only because of how strong you're team coming back is (supposedly) but also because Barkley's likely bolting SC and Luck from Stanford.

The Alamo Bowl has a higher payout than the Holiday?

Over. Utah will be much better next year, and (as you pointed out) several current PAC 12 heavy hitters will be losing major pieces.

Considering that Utah should win at least 8 games this year, next year should almost certainly be better.

What about at 9??? I doubt it will be that high simply because they may not get the love they (supposedly) deserve but still, what if?

I don't know. I fully expect Utah to be significantly better next season. There has to be an increase in wins when going from a horrible offense to (at least) a decent offense, while returning a top notch defense. I am not sure what number I'd put on it yet though. Ask me again in the summer when I know who is all returning on each team, and what is happening with all the coaches.

Yes. I found that out today and was rather suprised. I guess this is the first year that the Alamo Bowl ranks higher than the Holiday Bowl for the Pac12 (according to what they were saying on the radio). I guess the Alamo payout is about $3 million and the Holiday is about $2 million.

And to answer Salmon's question on the over/under for next year: Go back in the Utah/BYU preseason prediction thread and I had the Utes finishing at 8-and-4, so I wouldn't consider myself a blind Ute homer who felt like they were going to take the PAC by storm in year 1. With that being said, I strongly feel that Utah will be fielding a 10 win team next season. Of course spring/fall injuries could change the outlook before the season starts, but as it sits now, I expect Utah to give USC a very good battle for the PAC12 South next year. It's also huge that USC will be coming to SLC. With a little luck maybe Utah can get them up on the hill in late November.
