Utes 2011 Football Discussion

Matt Harpring and I will be rooting for the same team. I can't wait.

I can't wait to watch Utah lose two bowls in a row. Seriously though, I can't.
Good luck with Tulsa the third best team in their state.... but then hey so is your team.

j/k, hadn't noticed you back posting again so had to take a welcome back shot

Not huge news but I expected somebody to post that Tyler Shreve was xfer'ing to Riverside (Calif.) Community College to play baseball and football. Sounds like he just wasn't mentally able to make the transition to a starting Div 1 football QB.

I didn't expect Shreve to be a threat for the starting job in 2012, but this clears the QB picture even further. No matter what, Wynn will be a huge question mark and even if he regains his starting position, he'll constantly be 1 hit away from being done. Hayes is what he is: a gritty dude who's just not a starting QB at the D1 level. Ladies and gentleman, the 2012 QB for your Utah Utes is going to be a true freshman.

It will be an interesting battle between Travis Wilson and Chase Hansen.

America's got G-Tech beating us..

Todd Mcshay has 10 confidence points on G-Tech as well citing QB issues with Utah.
Fair enough though I think Ute fans are hoping neither team will have to pass that much.

While the Utes may have some QB issues, I'm a little perplexed at the high confidence all of the "experts" are showing in GaTech. IMO, having almost 1 month to prep for the triple option gives an advantage to the opposing team. I think that's one of the reasons you've seen Paul Johnson fail to win a bowl game since arriving at GT. Add to that the fact that Kyle Whittingham and staff are more than used to prepping for the triple option. Air Force may have given Utah trouble from time to time, but there's a big difference in facing an option team during the middle of the season compared to facing one in a bowl game with all of that extra prep time.

I know Brian Blechen is already considered a stud by most Ute fans, but I think his performance in this bowl game is going to take his status to the next level. He's basically going to be asked to play a hybrid position in between LB and Safety and that suits his skill set perfectly.

I really think our defense can shut down the triple option. The question is can we score enough? This game has the making of a 16-13 slugfest.

FYI, been coaching an "elite" team that is going up to Washington over the Christmas break for some Nike tourney. Anyway, Austin Lee from Alta is playing corner for us and he is a Utah commit and I was unimpressed with him when we played him in-season but he has won me over in our practices. Very good work ethic. Got good length and plays the ball well.

The Utes basketball won tonight!I can't believe i actually watched that.

whew! i did not want to lose that guy.

This is good news. IMO, the secondary has always been the weak link in Utah's defense.
