Venting on Utah Drivers!!

I want to put up a gigantic billboard just this side of the Idaho-Utah boarder that says "Hey fellas, we have a passing lane law in this state. Get the hell out or go back to that freezing **** hole you call home."

Utah drivers have nothing on those go nowhere but straight to the furthest left lane dip ***** up north.

That, and people with U of U license plates tend to be terrible on the road. I don't know what the correlation is, but putting that giant U on your license plate must be a license to pretend no one around you exists.

I drive from Layton to The WVC and back each day and see every kind of frustrating driver. The Idaho Left Laners are predictable and I hate them, but worse than them is the middle lane drivers who go about 5 under the limit and clog the traffic. I call them "traffic tampons" because they stop the flow of traffic.

Wow. I have never seen so many long posts in my life!

Anyways, there is a special place called Cache Valley where they breed Utah and Idaho drivers for the ultimate bad driver hybrid (super nice people, just frustrating to drive with). You can't drive faster than 10-under on main street.

It seems like the only time UT drivers are courteous is when they have the right of way and should just get out of the way, but instead stop everything and insist that you go! By the way, if they hit you in this situation, guess whose fault it is!

I really loved living in Nevada where the flow of traffic was 15-over, and people generally got out of the way. Definitely some road ragers though Even liked the aggressive driving atmosphere on the strip. I think California is even better where they actually make room for you when you merge onto the freeway.

Recently a good friend said, "If I made it there safely, it was a successful commute." It really changed my perspective on driving and now I try drive a bit slower, and have a bit more patience. Still Utah driving has to be some of the worst.

I have a 3 minute drive to my office.

Hell, I walk to work when I don't have off-site meetings.

I have lived in Houston for 3 years now. Houston drivers aren't perfect but they do understand merging and letting people over.
 
Man I love this thread. I have always said Utah drivers are among the worst in the nation. I've driven in Chicago, NYC, L.A., and San Diego. People here are by far more inconsiderate and just flat out dumb than any of those cities. I see at least 2-3 people per day who get to a 4-way stop before me and insist that I got first, even if they're on the right. Also, especially in the past few years, people have started turning left through red lights whenever they feel like it. Nobody here uses turn signals. Nobody knows how to merge. And as was said, people drive 60 in the fast line on the freeway
 
I guess my biggest pet peeve on the subject of driving is being somebody on a very long on ramp, and that somebody gets up to about 50 and stays at that speed for 5 seconds until he/she merges into a freeway lane. The ramp is long for a reason, to get to freeway speeds.

What's really annoying about this is that when they merge, they immediately accelerate, leaving me to look like I'm merging at 45 MPH. The cute ones are the ones that immediate go to the left lane.

Now that I think of it, I don't have these problems the further away from Salt Lake I get. I have no problem with this in Northern Weber county, but this happens all the time in Davis county.
 
I think Davis County is the worst. Followed closely by Happy (i.e. Prozac) Valley.
 
A pet peeve I have due to the traffic accidents I have had to work is this: Imagine you have a busy four lane road with a turn-lane in the middle. It's rush-hour and the traffic going Northbound is backed up. Vehicle A is in the turn lane trying to turn left (West) and go through the busy Northbound traffic. Vehicle B is in the inside lane and stops to wave vehicle A through their lane. Vehicle C who is travelling in the outside lane and can see only stopped cars next to them, has no idea vehicle A is trying to turn through their lane...and WHAM! Sideswipe. Now vehicle A is pissed because they assumed that both lanes had stopped to let them through and vehicle C is pissed because they were going straight and had no idea vehicle A was coming.

Oh, and for those curious, vehicle A would be at fault because vehicle C was going straight and had the right-of-way. Yes, even though vehicle B had stopped to let them through.
