Actually the thread should say "brian windhorst speculates that dwayne wade is concerned about donovan staying in utah and oneye gets a huge boner and immediately asks brian windhorst to be his best friend"
Mods, can you changed the title please? TIA
Wow, and even though he only has one gonad.

Everyone should be seriously concerned he will stay. He means a lot to the franchise. Here is how it will go in 2 years:

-We have a legit contender and he is content... we present him with the opportunity to sign the super duper max. That is something only we can offer. He accepts and stays for his whole prime or we can move him in 4-5 years if he wants out. This is what Dame did... he may want out but Dame is under contract for 4 more years so they will get a lot of value for him or he will stay.

-We may still be in "good playoff team, but not contender" mode. Donovan may be frustrated. We present him with the super duper max deal... he says no thanks I'd like to keep my options open. At that point you have to trade him for a huge haul and rebuild.

I'm guessing it will be the second option but I'm legit 60/40 split. Ryan and Dwade may figure this out. I just hope we get a good two years and that when we do rebuild that we go full OKC and do a full demo. I think you almost have to have Mike back to maximize the 2 year window... even if there is a good chance Mike isn't healthy come playoff time. We just can't replace his level of talent.

Good post.

I think we have to either have Mike OR turn Mike into something we need via S&T. We are hurting if we lose him for nothing.

Windhorst said it’s not unusual when there is a new owner for there to be leadership changes (regarding DL).

This one was complicated according to him. He thinks Smith and Wade were the main reason the change happened. He also said he thinks Wade is seriously concerned about Mitchell being here long term.

There was a number of things that lead to this. It was an open secret that Quin and DL had a very poor relationship. Not something that was a good thing. Even though Zanik got promoted he says Wade is going to influence changes.

The way Donovan saw this season unfold specifically his ankle injury in the playoffs was handled really unnerved him and he was in a rough spot with the franchise near the end of the year.

One of the big reasons Smith brought in Wade (he got a very favorable price) was to help keep Donovan here long-term. He doesn’t think the maneuvers are done this off-season.

Royce Young said we are seeing a similar situation in Dallas with Luka. Teams will go to great lengths to keep their young stars happy while they are on a contract that the team is in control of. You need to cater to them but you can’t go too far and alienate them from the team. He thinks the Jazz are trying to find that sweet spot with Donovan right now.

Windhorst said he doesn’t think the team needs a makeover but changes are coming.

Kevin Pelton said DL’s 2nd place voting in Executive of the Year was more a culmination of everything he’s done rather than just the last year because he made some questionable moves. He said Smith has shown a willingness to pay into the luxury tax but going forward it’s going to be hard due to Rudy’s contract and especially if Conley re-signs. Said Utah doesn’t have the same revenue from TV contracts and such as a bigger market. Said the guys DL and Quin were butting heads about didn’t show much when they were on the court. We’re going to have to find guys for cheap to fill out the bench.

Windhorst says Shane Battier is a candidate to get hired for the front office. Him and Wade were teammates and that plays into it. Him stepping down was a surprise to the Heat but there is speculation that him coming here has been in the works for awhile.

Executives and teams that are in the hunt for star players have Damian Lillard’s name high up on their board and down on the middle right side of the board not high up but on the board they have Donovan Mitchell’s name. Smith and Wade are trying to push his name off of the board completely. Saying his max contract is about to just start and we’re going to make him more comfortable here. Utah has been the gold standard for stability so this is an unusual situation.

Royce Young goes on to say that the Jazz have invested a ton in their facility and amenities to try to entice players to come to Utah and to keep players there. They repaired the Rudy and Donovan relationship. It seems like they overcame that and there is another little bump they need to overcome. He hasn’t heard any loud grumblings about Donovan’s comfort level with the Jazz. He did say things like this can spiral quickly if not fixed and pointed out the Lillard situation. Things happen fast in the NBA.

Windhorst said Smith is a really smart guy and he recognized immediately that he needed to create the type of bond with a market and a team that Lillard and Portland have had. He doesn’t think the Jazz are there with Donovan and he wants to make it there. Bringing Wade in wasn’t symbolic like Shaq and the Kings. Wade is real engaged factor.

Pelton brought up Ainge due to him being close to Smith. He asks Windhorst if he’s in the mix. As far as he knows he’s still helping the Celtics. He said it wouldn’t surprise him but he didn’t seem like it is that big of a possibility. It sounds like Battier is the leading candidate to get hired to help Zanik. He said Wade is riding shotgun with Smith.

That is everything that was discussed for about 18 minutes.

Thanks. That all makes sense.

If you look at Donovans most recent like on Twitter, I'd say he simply doesn't like being in Utah, and it's becoming less and less of a secret. He's again paying attention to backlash idiot comments over him wanting to meet with the Utah Legislature on critical race theory. I think Donovan will ask for a trade in 2 years from now, but it very well may happen next offseason. Y'all need to simply start preparing for this to not last much longer.
Not a bad idea. If the legislature prefers to listen to Trump Facebook idiots instead of actual scholars and academics, then maybe the best basketball player in Utah should step in to try and knock some sense into them?

Utah has an obvious stigma. In the past we’ve been able to shrug it off as Ron Harper or Stephen Jackson just being mean. In reality, we’ve seen a lot of racial incidents lately. Perhaps it’s time for people to listen to African Americans? Especially the most influential one here in Utah? Perhaps state leaders listening might make a difference so recruiting African American athletes here isn’t like pulling teeth? If it helps make utah a better place while making it easier for us to compete with other pro markets, let’s do it!

+100000.
Rooting for Donovan to drag the entire damn state kicking and screaming into the 21st century, but understand that's tiresome and asking a lot.

All of this.
Yes because we all know that Utah was the birth place of racism in America. Part of the stigma has more to do with the major religion in the state and their past racist doctrine. Racism is everywhere not just Utah but the media makes it sound like it is. The other issue for black athletes is there is little to none black community in Utah. It is about 94 percent white. I think that has a lot to do with it too. Lastly, SLC has gotten better but in the past it wasn't know as a night club type town so that also adds to the reason why black athletes don't have Utah as a travel destination.

We got Donovan until he's 30. It's going to be alright. And if he wants to leave we can trade him to the Knicks for a bunch of unprotected firsts that will all end up as lottery picks because... The Knicks.

It’s not just the mormon’s church’s past doctrine. You’re letting current people off with their obviously racist and alienating attitudes and rhetoric. Remember westbrook a few years ago? Hell, Ja Morant’s family couldn’t even watch a damn game without being harassed. True, I think many fans if not most fans aren’t racist. I think the Jazz’s organization as a whole, did a great job trying to make things right from that train wreck.

But you know what would be better?Preventing the train wreck from occurring in the first place. Which is what I see Mitchell trying to do right now. He’s trying to raise awareness to an issue that the legislature has seemed to turn a blind eye to. Utahns aren’t as explicitly racist as other places. But you’re insanely naive if you don’t see the implicit bias and subtle racism so prevalent in our state right now. Maybe Mitchell could help point some blind spots out?

If it helps this franchise wins championship and makes utah a better place? Then I support it. Sorry Utahns who think we’re perfect snd mitchell should just shut up and dribble, **** your feelings. Listen to the man

Which is so much fun! My favorite jazz teams were the ones between 2004-2006. Or the ones with Al Jefferson. Or the ones with hayward, Kanter, and Favors.

Not having a superstar and living in the lottery is so much fun!!! Yay!!!

The instability in the franchise is very simple. It can be liked or not liked, essentially we have LeDonovan, who will have every need, want, and desire catered to. I still don’t think it’ll work.
