Walker Kessler Should No Longer Play Until KO is Traded

That is where hopefully struggling over these next few games comes into play and we get our priorities straight. It would be nice to get Kessler a consistent 25 minutes a game and somehow find Ochai and NAW some non garbage minutes every game. I really don't understand the thinking of Hardy benching NAW the last few games after how well he had been playing his prior few games.
Not big on NAW but its time to sacrifice more minutes in the sake of development time. 10 more minutes to Kessler, 10 more minutes to Simone, 10 minutes to Ochai.

I don't understand the NAW time... would rather see THT get those minutes. More hope in him and maybe he plays well enough to opt out or have some minor trade value.

Yeah, I'm all in on Kessler. He should play 25mpg.

Simone will be 27 in a few days. He is what he is. I think he's headed back to Europe once his deal is up. He can probably make more money there and it doesn't make sense for him to spend his basketball prime playing 9mpg in the NBA.

I have no idea what to think about Ochai. He might be a serviceable rotation player in a few years... but he might also be out of the NBA after his rookie deal.

There is usually an adjustment year even for Euro League guys in their prime... so Simone should be given more time before being dismissed. He's doing one of the hardest things for a bench player... come off the bench in limited minutes and shoot. He's 40% from three and per minute putting up a good rate. I think he's a rotation wing.

Imagine saying this about Joe Ingles... (who also came into the NBA at age 27)

*and for the record, I was saying that about Joe Ingles after his rookie season when it felt like he was just signed to babysit Dante, but I was incredibly wrong. I wouldnt give up on Simone*

The (huge) difference is that Simone doesn't seem to have any of the intangibles that Ingles possessed from the second he first stepped foot on an NBA floor. Joe was a much better player when he came into the league, defensive woes and all. Fontecchio is an energy guy with awkward tweener size who can shoot a bit. He would be playing bigger minutes if he deserved them.

I can't see him lasting in the NBA.

He can shoot a bit? Sir he's a ****ing flame thrower. 40% on threes and taking a ton. It is incredibly hard for guys to be effective coming off the bench in spot minutes and shoot from the perimeter like he is.

He's more Max Strus than Joe Ingles. He has some Bogey similarities. Its way to early to judge him.

He's made a few good defensive plays and seems to make solid rotations. He also is surprisingly good on pump fake straight line drives. Tried to mash on some guys and missed a couple early (some missed fouls in there imo). Beasley fills the high volume three point shooter role right now. Moving Vando or KO would open up some minutes for Simone... for instance if Vando was moved and Kessler became the starter... I could see Simone being a decent option to slide into a 20 minute a night starter role.

I agree that I undersold his shooting - he has the potential to become a valued floor spacer if he can uphold his 40% accuracy from the perimeter.

Simone has little margin for error, though. He's 6'8'' and plays a critical position defensively (small forward). So far he hasn't been able to stay with NBA 3's, and obviously he's too small to guard bigs. That leads me to believe he'll always be a bench specialist in the NBA. Maybe playing 15 to 20 minutes tops.

I want Vando and Kessler on the floor at the same time. Vando is hitting the corner three. I want see rebounding and defense take a giant leap.

Oh and I have a bad new nickname for Lauri. The Wiesel. But he waits and just pops off in a highly efficient way. Pop goes the Wiesel. He's the opposite to a chucker.

The comp for me is Max Strus. His defense may not get there but I think he can be a better shooter. He may top out as a bench wing playing 15-20 a night but he will still be important... and that player gets 5-8M a year.

I'm afraid that would be a disaster offensively. Vando may be hitting the corner three, but they're definitely not guarding him. Our spacing would be terrible and the paint would be completely clogged. There's a reason Hardy pretty much never has them on the floor at the same time.

If we go into tank mode then I would love to see these guys out there together because there is nothing to lose. What a lot of people don't realize is that Vando missed nearly 3 full years of basketball development with non stop foot injuries during his year at Kentucky and his first 2 years in the league. Then once he finally got healthy he had such specific role that he really didn't branch out from that role. This year he is finally healthy and getting the opportunity to expand his game.

Actually, they played their first minute together last game. 5 points scored (one 3PT, 2 FT) during that minute with +1 BPM.

Thats their total for the season. 1 minute.

Teams are going to have to begin guarding him out to the 3pt line because you can't ignore a guy that is shooting 46% from 3. Even if it is in a limited amount of attempts.
