Do you think there will be a war with battles fought on American soil within the next 40ish years? Let's just say by 2050. Will wars of the future be fought via technology and with drones, or can you envision a real war taking place on American soil. How would an enemy fare considering everyone and their mum has an arsenal nowadays? Is China the only credible possibility to challenge us on our own soil, or could another nation do the same?

I don't see any of those as a real possibility. The only way I could see China even considering that is if their economy absolutely dwarfed ours at that point. I think instead of spending so much money fighting foreign wars, we could instead spend a LOT of our military budget strengthening our education system to maintain our technological advantages which I believe would be the real key to being a secure nation in the future.

I'm just spit balling here, but I can't really imagine a scenario where a war would be fought on US soil, and was wondering what everyone else though. Those that agree: why? Those that don't agree: would you propose increasing or decreasing our military budget?

Also take into consideration limited resources (oil, food, water, etc.), population growth, and the logistical difficulty of invading by sea/Canada/Mexico. I think Mexico is the most likely of those 3.

In my opinion, the only war on American soil will be a civil war. Too many people, too much money at stake, and too many power-hungry fools that think their way is the correct way. (and the sheep that follow them) By the time our society deteriorates into civil war, technology will not help either side win. At that point, I surmise that our dependence on technology will be our downfall, and both sides will know how to knock out their opponents technological advancements. Ka is a wheel, and we're destined to repeat ourselves. Mark my words, a civil war will happen in this country and it will be fought by old school tactics. THAT is when real leaders will be born and the country will finally repair itself.

Duck Rogers.

I keep getting reps on this post, most of them negative, but some positive -- the positive ones seem to think that I'm just making fun of Duck, which is only partly true. I really do believe what I wrote up there, it just so happens that it's bat**** crazy, much like everything that Duck posts.

Did you just night attack me on Jazzfanz while I was sleeping? If that's not a declaration of war, I don't know what is. If you want beef , I've got some Burger King coupons in my cupboard with your name on it. Just let me know.

Personally, I think we're already at war in this country. I'm constantly opening my cupboards, checking the garage, checking the fridge, looking under the beds, making sure all the windows and doors are locked, guns loaded. Just all part of my Al Qaeda protection routine. I mean, I like to go out every once in awhile just like anybody else, but not while Al Qaeda is out there playing in the snow, shopping at the malls, watching movies in the cinemas, rooting for BYU, the Jazz, the Raiders, USC, attending church, and dating beautiful women.

But seriously, why the 40 year long view question? We've got Indefinite dentention bills they are attempting to pass in congress right now that are completely disturbing. KBR, a defense company, just signed a contract to man FEMA Camps(yes, they are actually real), and the World War 3 threat is stronger than ever as the CIA continues to overthrow dictators in the guise of Arab freedom, especially considering that the decision is going to come down to letting the economy collapse or starting World War 3. So yes, people are about to be pushed to a breaking point so we'll see happens. Not within 40 years though, 2012 is going to be the most eventful year in human history. The Mayan stuff is bull ****, The Illuminati stuff is all real. And yes, I'm crazy enough that I don't think I'll be hanging around America much longer if things continue to spiral completely out of ****ing control. If there ever is a civil war, I'm not going to be fighting in it.

I think the most likely reason for something like that would be the NDAA which might be just around the corner.

I don't think any country will try to invade the US in the forseeable future.

I think it's more likely or even probable that the American people try to overthrow increasingly terrible and corrupt government, which caters to corporations and the tip top of the upper class, that could in turn cause a war/civil war/military conflict.

I am worried about the availability of cheese in the current economy. Already I pay almost $1.50 more per pound for 5 and 9 year aged cheddar, and forget about true parmigiano-reggiano, which is pricing from most of my favorite suppliers higher than I would like to pay. I am lucky that I have a solid source for combozola, gorgonzola, manchego and gruyere.

Ok great now I am hungry.

Serious our country is going bat%#$% and everyone that is trying to actually stop the problems like Occupy Wallstreet are the new villians. There was a great Daily Show last night here is the link [video]https://www.thedailyshow.com/full-episodes/tue-december-13-2011-lawrence-lessig. But it is very possible that a civil war will happen with all of the ignorance that is out from religious intolerances to rich manipulating government. That daily show touches on those topics and has an interesting guest who speaks on getting $$$ out of government.

Do you have a "guy" for cheese. If not, I feel like I see a niche that needs to be filled.

Kind of. I was a member of a cheese club for a while, believe it or not, and I visit cheese-making facilities all over the place when I travel. I have about 3 or 4 websites I purchase from most often, but in Salt Lake there was a guy who helped me track down cheeses from time to time. I have probably tasted over 500 different cheeses (of course lots of them are similar, so really maybe 100-200 different varieties?). At one point a few years ago you could find anywhere from 5 to 15 different cheeses in my fridge or pantry (not all of them are best refrigerated). My wife thinks the whole cheese thing (I am the same way about root beer) is weird. But she never argues when I create a grilled cheese panini style that is better than any grilled cheese you ever ate. Like manchego curado, gruyere and gorgonzola, in specific proportions, on a french or sour-dough roll turned inside-out (so it gets crispy), with fresh basil and oregano and occasionally sun-dried tomatoes or just a few capers or maybe even some prosciutto. Mmmmm.

Yeah, I think it is lunch time. :)

Oh yeah, and I think civil war would suck, as does war in general.

A fan of cheese and root beer? I like the cut of your jib Grad.

It also reminds me of one of my favorite jokes. You know what they say about feta cheese? It's no gouda!

Log is probably one of those guys that starts crying like a little girl when you're road tripping back to Utah from Vegas and somebody suggests you stop at that Cheese Factory in Beaver, but instead you just blow right past the exit because you'd rather drive off a cliff.

Funny. Not as funny as OneBrow calling Log a "political independent", but funny all the same. BTW, the Squeeky Cheese from Beaver rox my sox.

Too much trailer trash in the King's Forest.

No problem.

provoke civil turmoil and let them shoot each other.

There is already a war here in America: The War on Drugs:rolleyes:

The War on Poverty was announced by LBJ in I think 1965. How's that going?

The War on Terror is not over ten years old. Stupid people are still mesmerized by all that "security".

The War on Drugs was the thing oh say forty years ago.

John Dewey declared a War on Ignorance I think about 1920. From the gitgo the battle cry was "train to the task". . . . . with the advent of enlightened corporate downsizing/production realignment the tasks are being exported, and there's no more jobs for engineers here. . . . and Indian engineers will gladly come here to do them too.

Pretty much, when the government declares war on anything, we had better expect more of the worst.

Given a track record like that, does anybody really want the government managing anything?
