Was Kanter a Cancer?

People seem to forget that the team was playing .500 level ball for a while now after playing abysmal ball at start of season. Team was slowly improving. Overall though the trade worked out great for both party's.
 
Nah, Kanter wasn't a cancer. He just wasn't a good fit with the team. Huge difference.
 
Interesting story about the Thunder's current dynamic. As the Jazz have ripped off two impressive back-to-back victories against two legit teams following Kanter's departure, I figured there would be speculation in Jazz Nation regarding whether the Kanter move was addition by subtraction.

And it may very well be, but we don't really have anything beyond hearsay to go on when evaluating the locker room dynamic pre- or post-Kanter. The Jazz may very well end up being a better team without Kanter based on these rumblings, but let's wait a few more games before we make up our minds.

Perhaps the biggest takeaway from this whole situation is that 'fit' and player development are crucial, yet often underemphasized components of building a successful team. Hopefully the Jazz brass will reflect on this situation and grow from it as they move forward with this young team that is just waiting to bust out. This team might just be a lot closer to doing that than we even realize. I look forward to the rest of the season -- much more so than I did any point this year so far.

I go back to this piece about the Jazz scrimmage in the fall and this from the DN: Rookie Brock Motum, the Australian who played at Washington State, scored seven points and looked as good as anybody on the court during the 24-minute scrimmage. His scoring came from outside and off of a nice-looking floating scoop shot.

Jazz center Derrick Favors was impressed.

“Brock, he’s a better player than I thought he was,” Favors said of the 6-10 power forward who’s hoping to secure a roster spot this month. “I seen him during the summer league (and thought), ‘OK, he’s a good player.’ During training camp and especially tonight, he showed another level, I thought.”
In other words the Jazz had a lot of capital invested in Kanter, the front office told Snyder to get rid of front court players that might take PT from the tyro and then when it became evident that he could not do the job, suddenly positive results occur. Bring back Pleis, Tomic and Brock. It will be interesting to see how Cooley does on his 10 day K.

Burke after the Spurs game explaining team chemistry: "We got no cancer on the team". I don't know how much you can read into that. Might have nothing to do with Kanter.
