We Are Horrible

Last night was effing pathetic. We looked like a bunch of Nancy boys in that first quarter. Also what's up with not playing any of the guys with non-guaranteed Ks? They are not going to make the team and we will go with the guys that played last night and SAP.

I don't think we have horrible pieces, but as a team we have too many holes. The future is very bright, but the future is not now.

Wow, how high was your expectations for a preseasoon game after a short training camp! Maybe we should go undefeated in preseason like last year that worked for us!!

- I don't know that we have a pure PG (but Harris could be good to very good).

- I don't know that we have a pure SG (Burks is a rook, has an unproven shot, but oozing potential; Hayward can be good to very good, but questionable at guarding elite SG's, imo; Miles can shoot it, albeit inconsistently .. in an inconsistent manner; Bell = Blah)

- I don't know that we have a pure SF (Hayward lacks strength in the lane, at present; Others are either undersized or too slow)

- We're looking pretty good at the 4/5. (Millsap, Al, Favors, Kanter, Okur, Evans .. a very good rotation should be made out of that grouping)

So, we have a very nice stable of talent, both youngsters and vets. However, we also have a new coach with the unenviable task of quickly taking a bunch of combos and tweeners and making them buy into HIS system, play hard, and play together.

The future is bright, maybe.

Our offense will be fine once we work out the kinks but I'm not so sure about defense. We just don't have good defensive players... Teams like the Thunder are going to go off against us.

While the outcome was very bad, I think the Jazz learned a lot last night. Isn't that what the preseason is for?

Millsap is a critical piece for this team. I hope he isn't going anywhere.
I would not be at all surprised to see Big Al traded. Good player but not the guy for this situation and team.
Burks is the real deal.
Kanter will be fine.
Favors is ready!
Harris will keep the spot warm, but is not the answer.
Hayward has the skills, but needs the take charge attitude.
Memo is a contributor, but not a starter.
Bell and CJ can help in spots, but can't be counted on night after night.
Watson is not spectacular, but fine as a backup.

That's what I got from last night. The Jazz are not nearly as bad as they were last night. They will be okay this year, but not live up to expectations.

The future, however is very bright. Those of you who are upset about last night kind of missed the point about last nights game.

There's only 2 preseason games. Every minute is valuable time for players going to make the team in preparing for the season.

It's going to be a long year, that is for sure.

I fooled myself into believing we could compete for a playoff spot, but now I will just be happy to see improvement everyday from our young players.

Exactly. I see this year as the year that we set ourselves up for the long term future. Get the young guys chemistry down, let them develop. Snag 1-2 lottery picks (preferably a SF and PG) and trade 1-2 of the veterans. I want to see the Jazz do well this year but I am not counting on it.

Not saying the Jazz are going to be good, but it's one preseason game. One preseason game.

I'm not cautious because of this game, at all. I'm cautious to have a lot of hope for this season because of a new coach, new players, new systems, and some questionable floor positions. That's not being negative, at all. I actually find it kind of exciting to watch it evolve (hopefully), win or lose (this year).

That Portland team has played together alot longer than our guys. It showed. Not to mention they were playing at home and had more energy.

Jazz should play with more energy at home tomorrow and they need to win that game. But they still aren't a playoff team and we all knew that before last night.

They'll play better. But there was so little continuity on both offense and defense that I'm worried. Hopefully they show up a lot better than last night or it could be a long year.
