What's new

We are just like the Thunder were a few years ago!

Stats have to be from when harden was 22 years old and they have to be per 36 as well.
Doesn't make any difference. Harden's bread and butter has always been attacking the rim, and he's been one of the most efficient scorers in the league doing so.

Cool
maybe when burks is hardens age and if he is given the same opportunities that harden has been given (minutes wise, and being the number 1 option) then maybe burks will be one of the most efficient scorers in the league using attacking as his bread and butter too!
I for one cant wait

Dude, fish. Stahp.

Burks is an average to slightly above average NBA player.

You sound insane when you compare him to some of the best players in the league.

/waits for someone to post the Burks vs Miami or Burks vs Denver video

Thunder draft

We have to learn from the Thunder to select the right players in the They always make a good job in the draft.

I disagree. Danny Vranes was a bust with the #5 pick in 1981.

Seriously, you are correct, their scouts get some major kudos.

Burks is effectively playing the same role in his third season at age 22 as Harden played in his third season at age 22.

2 years ago, when Harden was Burks' age, Harden had a TS% of .660 (3rd in the league among players who played 1000+ minutes, after Tyson Chandler and Steve Novak), with more than one free throw attempt per 2-point field goal attempt (6.0 FTA, 5.4 2PA per game; .579 2P%. .390 3P%, .846 FT%; 19.3 PTS/36). Harden shot 67% in the restricted area, with only 30% of those baskets assisted.

Burks this year has a TS% of .526 (below current league average of .537), with less than half as many free throw attempts as 2-point field goal attempts (4.2 FTA, 8.8 2PA; .458 2P%, .342 3P%, .761 FT%; 17.0 PTS/36). Burks is shooting 58% in the restricted area, with 35% of those baskets assisted.

Then tell me this ugli
What skill is burks lacking to be an elite slasher? (i wave the white flag as far as harden vs burks outside shot btw)

Is burks quick enough? Yep
Is he athletic enough? Yep
Can he finish in traffic? yep
Can he finish through contact? yep
Is his ball handling good enough? yep
Does he draw fouls well? uh huh
Does he have a good first step? 10-4

Plus his outside shot is getting better, and his decision making is getting better once he gets into the paint (now that he is finally getting minutes)

I have yet to see ANYBODY be able to stop him from ever getting into the paint

Right now his outside shot and his defensive are holding him back......... yet wades outside shot sucks and hardens defense sucks.

Remember that this is burks FIRST year in this role with these kind of minutes and had a lockout season for a rookie year and corbin for a coach and no durant on the team.

But i will ask you the same question i asked ugli.
What skill is burks lacking to stop him from being on hardens level at slashing?

I'd agree that Burks is an elite slasher. Harden and Wade are clearly superior players.

Strength, drawing fouls, finishing ability. Take a look at the stats of top slashers in the league. Burks isn't there.

You can keep making excuses for Burks, but look at those stats again. There's a 0% chance Burks is ever as efficient as Harden was attacking the basket 2 years ago.

Fair enough

@ gvc. thanks for those stats and yes they do show that harden was clearly the better player at the same stages of thier careers.

I am of the opinon that harden played for a better coach, was developed in a better fashion (how often did harden get dnp's and play point guard), had better teammates around him, and was closer to his ceiling at that point than burks is right now.

I think burks has alot of room to improve and this season has shown me that he can

I'm one of the original Burks homers and even I would admit that while they're both excellent at getting to the rim, Harden does it with an ease and control that is singular in the NBA.

Burks isn't there.

Do you think he has improved this season?
Do you think he will continue to improve?

BTW im not entirely insane (just partially i guess) on burks.

If you guys asked me if i think burks will be better than harden and wade in thier primes, then I would say no i dont.
If you asked me if i would trade burks for harden, then of course my answer would be yes without even thinking about it.

The problem i have is that some of you think that after seeing burks play 2 months of basketball with quality minutes in a quality role (under corbin no less) that there is no possiblity that he could ever become great.
I require a larger sample size before coming to that conclusion

I think Rudy Gobert is the next Wilt Chamberlain!!! Name me one move Wilt had that he doesn't!!!

You have got me there.... when you put it that way I cant say for sure that rudy wont be the next wilt

I'm with Fish.... Burks may not be DWade or Harden, but you can't deny the gifts Burks has and the improvements he continues to make when given opportunities!!
