We Got Swindled by Sexton (And Eddie Zero Sucks)

I mean when you’re the backup PG but can’t get court time when the starting PG is injured..

Plus you’re paid $15m a year…

But if he was the price we paid for THE Markkanen.. who am I to complain.. Muahahaha!!!
I love the fact he is striving to improve his playmaking, but I'm not sure when (if ever) he gets to be servicable as a playmaker.

Right now he and JC overlap, so Conley going down means more minutes for the 3 letter guys.

If we have Sexton and JC playing extended minutes together we are gonna turn into Walmart discount isle version of the Hawks and Lauri will starve to death.

I mean he made a play tonight he normally has been messing up… not sure why a guy can’t make changes in his 4th year (essentially his 4th anyway).

JC made big changes to his game. Kid works and plays hard… there’s a chance.
He had some nice reads tonight.

Hes still a back it up and slow it down, stop the offense kind of guy though, but at least he can be a better passer out of that context.

The one play that shocked me was I thought he’d go right at Eubanks when he had him one on one… he drove through kicked to Simone… who gave it back to him for a corner three… felt like some progress.

Lauri will need to crash the paint. Sexton, JC and THT are all very good at attacking the paint and drawing a bunch of defenders. Lauri should be getting easy layups and dunks off that action.

He also had a pretty good look at a floater that he would probably make but saw kessler at the last second for the lob dunk.

Most players don't reach their potential until the hit 27. He is still only 23. He spent his first 3 seasons just focusing on scoring and obviously missed his 4th season to injury.

It's going to be alot of one step back/two steps forward with Sexton since they're obviously trying to reprogram his entire game to be more of a PG and less of a microwave guard who only focuses on scoring.

If he makes 1-2 winning plays a night that is progress.

I'm assuming with his contract this could be a multiple year project so wouldn't jump off the bridge every time he makes a mistake/gets benched because it's going to happen throughout this entire season.

Even if Don were still on this team I think he would've needed to change his play style a bit to fit with Hardy similar to what JC is trying to do too.

Maybe it will eventually change but it's pretty obvious Hardy's offense is primarily based on ball movement and not hero ball.

Sexton is a PG with almost more TO than assist . He have to work hard if he want to improve.
I cannot understand why some people think he is a pg. I guess you are suggesting he cannot be one or something.
He is a 6 "right now" on a good team , which is really what this team is before the trades come, despite the media driven tank notions, preseason, post trades.
Sexton was more than capable of becoming a reasonably effective point guard even a starting 1,if Cleveland would have developed him. They instead decided to draft Garland who as it stands right now was the right choice to be their pg. Sexton gets a solid 2 way off ball specialist sharing the backcourt with him, and an athletic center to feed, he will be fine.
But the man ruptured his knee. It was not just a tear. He does not look at all to be his old self yet imo. Seems he has the mindset of my older brother, who would go nose first into a fight that wasn't his, even if there was no chance of him avoiding injury. Sexton really was the Young Bull pre injury. He just isn't playing like it anymore, now he is usually Cole Trickle after the crash

I haven't checked the stats, but it feels like Sexton leads the league in getting blocked at the rim. He simply can't get up like he used to.
I feel like he's just being pretty easy to read for the defenders. He's pretty short, so a trailing big has a lot of time to time the block, and so far he's just not crafty enough to avoid being blocked. He needs to be more difficult to read to be able to get that layup off.

Sexton is not a star at this time, but he is a great rotation player who can help us when the offense starts to struggle.
