We Lost the Coin Flip

That was the very first NBA Draft Lottery, so the odds probably weren't the same as now.

Each non-playoff team in that lottery had the exact same chance of winning. So as far as the highest seed to jump up, it might be when the Magic won the lottery the 2nd year in a row and ended up with Penny Hardaway. I think they just missed the playoffs the previous season.

Since there were 27 teams that season, the Magic had the 11th best (aka worst) chances of all the lottery teams of winning the lottery and won it.
 
The corner was bent before they picked it out. That's how they knew which one to pick. Pretty insane that there was such a blatant fix.
