What's new

wesley matthews 6 points and 2 in garbage time

He was off tonight and was well defended. I would not call a driving layup with 15 seconds or so on the clock down by 3 garbage time though.

You know what? Send Matthews back to Utah - I'd take him in a heartbeat over Miles and/or Bell.

Can you imagine what the rage would be on this board if we were paying $8M for him?
He'd be the new whipping boy.

curious to see what locke says about how dearly we missed raja tonight

I think out of his 5 three pointers, 4 of them were wide open and he bricked them. Actually, now that I think about it, the only shots he made were the really well contested shots from the FT line and in.

He's not having a very good year. His 3-pt % is good, but overall just 42% and averaging 14/3. I really like a Hayward/Burks rotation at the 2, as long as KOC drafts or trades for a starting SF. I'd even be ok with resigning Howard, although I think he brings a late 1st in a trade to a contender, which is too valuable an asset to pass up.

Matthews is a good rotational player. He is one of the few complete SG's in that he plays D, can hit shots, and is a good teammate. I just think he was overrated by many on the board.

True, still not garbage time

Hayward scored 2 points in garbage time with 2 seconds to go when he had 2 wide open easy free throws, right?

There is a lot more pressure on FT's than there is on a wide open layup. Have you never played basketball?

$8mm? Dude's cap hit is just a hair over $6mm, and his salary is even less.
Yep, I was off by $1M/per. He signed a contract for 5/$34M, which is just a shade under $7M/per over the life of the deal (don't know why I had a $40M number stuck in my head). The $9M signing bonus is spread evenly over the 5 years for cap calculations. So you can say his current "salary" is less, but then you'd also have to say his salary last season was $14M! In any case, whether it's $6.5M, $7M cap hit or a "salary" of $5M+, my original statement stands; I'd much rather have Hayward/Burks making what they do than a Matthews at his price.

Yes I have and do. I understand the pressure and this is my last post about this because its a silly argument but an easy shot or not its not "garbage time" in a 3 point game. Garbage time is down by 20 at the end of the game and subs come in.

This has little to do with this thread though.

I dont think we suffered at all from having Bell out defensively and definitely not offensively, but we did not shut Matthews down he had an off game.

I still like Bell on the team but he needs to come of the bench and play less minutes.

14 and 3 is not a "bad year" in and of itself.... BECAUSE .... wait for it............there is another side to the basketball floor! If he's holding the guy he's defending to a PER of 7 while putting up 14 and 3, does that make it a bad year? I'm seriously curious as a mother****er

Not that I said it was, but that's why you need to also look at shooting %. I just think Matthews is overrated by many on this board. And especially so if you also factor in his salary/cap amount.
