What can't he do?

Walker and Knight will both, most definitely, go before Jimmer. If I'm KOC, I take Kanter and Fredette, in a freakin' heartbeat, and laugh all the way to the bank. (read into that what you may)

Make it happen! I'm in Colorado and have no real vested interest in Fredette, but I did watch him play, when I could, and love his game. We need a shooter who demands attention from the guards and Jimmer is it.

That said, don't overlook Alec Burks @ the 12 spot... I watched him and like the fact he drove left or right about 50/50.... he creates his own shots at the rim and rebounded at a very good rate for a guard. (It's too bad the CU faithful are so abysmal at posting highlights, he was very good for a Sophomore.)

Or him?

hmmm.. one thing that appealed to me with respect to Kanter is his physicality inside. He doesn't seem like the typical lanky, soft, Euro ala Biedrins, Okur (yes, I've said it), Darko, ...

If you're gonna be soft, be ridiculously skilful (Gasol, Nowitzki)...

I have no idea. The NCAA is no doubt corrupt. By NCAA rules Kanter is ineligible, and they chose to see out those rules.

Selby and Sidney where both punished for whatever they did.

Cam Newton was already a star when all the allegations arose. The NCAA knew they would lose a ton of money if they suspended him.
You emphatically stated that there was a 0% chance he could have been ruled eligible. If this was a heavyweight fight you would have been knocked out when the ref said, "Touch gloves and come out fighting." You just got PKMered.

What can't he do?

- Jefferson type inside move: Tick
- Athletic dunks: Tick
- Off the dribble: Tick
- Spin move: Tick
- Passing: Tick
- Block shot: Tick
- Mid range shot: Tick
- 3pt range: Tick

Okay, okay, before you get started - it is a blimmin' high school game, but the skills are there and from the Combine he does have the size.

Personally, I don't think he'll be there at 3 - I do think Wolves will keep the pick and snag him at #3 as they're loaded at the wing. But that's fine we'll just take DWill2.

Wow. That was impressive. Great find. Anybody stupid enough to take Knight over this guy should receive an immediate lifetime ban from being a professional and be returned to permanent amateur status.

Honestly, if he came in and was an average NBA defender right now, I would take it. It's better than what Millsap and Jefferson are right now in pick-and-roll D. He's not going to block a lot of shots, but he looks like he has the lateral quicks to be an improvement as a defender in that regard. Favors and Kanter would be quite a duo right away on the glass. Both of them can really rebound already.

I said this poorly.

I wonder if he will ever become an average defender.

What makes you think he can surpass Boozer's defensive ability?

Obviously won't know until we get there. However, I 'think' he'll be at least an average defender because of three things;
- Sufficient size
- Sufficient mobility/athleticism
- Heart/Work ethic/Want-to

The issue is whether all these guys in these video can move up a league and still perform. If you watch the Jonas V videos - there is NO D. While he does have excellent hands and moves well, it is not given that he'll translate. Kanter videos (particularly the Nike Hoop summit) proves him out more with some chance that he could make it to next (two steps) level. Looking back to that Lebron, Darko, Mello draft, there was plenty of evidence of of Lebrons and Mello's physical, athletic capabilities as well as their basketball skills. (Lebron worked out with NBA players and Mellow was NCAA champ. ) I personally had no data on Darko, just hearsay that he "all the skills" and "beautiful moves." Turns out he just isn't athletic enough to have all that skill of his translate to NBA level. AFter watching so many Euro videos, it appears that is the "soft Euro" stereotype problem. I don't see much real D.

So is Kanter truly athletic enough? Here is what we have: Nike Hoop Summit - look at history: guys who dominate that go on to good NBA carreers. PKM testimonial about practice at UK. Calipari claims... Whew... Need more data.

Well said.

This video adds to the discussion since it's at least a live speed game. But I don't get a lot out of watching him take comfy jumpshots against guys who have no hope of defending him. I like seeing what he could look like. He's skilled. I just don't think this video says a lot about what he might be able to do at the NBA level. Some of the worst NBA bigs would have looked dominating in this game Kanter played in.

Okay, but I don't think anyone is saying that.

Like you said, it's more seeing 'what he could look like' - Does he have the spin move? Yes. Does he have the stroke? Yes. Can the put it on the floor? Yes.

But can he translate that at the NBA level? Who knows? But if I was a betting man, I'd say that it's "beyond a reasonable doubt" that he could transfer a lot of those skills.

(and before you ask, yes I've been trying to get through 8 seasons of The Practice).
