Why should we trade for Niko when he’ll be UFA at the end of the season? And how much is he going to get paid?
1. Make sure you've got him in the pocket already.
2. Free up more cap space with the contract of a guy who I believe we will continue to be having the exact same discussions about a year from now and two years from now.

Well, assuming he comes back in time, the Jazz should at a mimimum start him through the trade deadline and see what other options are available.

I would move Ricky for him but I’d keep Dante... nikos caphold is similar to Ricky’s so it would address a need and we’d have some opportunity to shop.

Might also find out he’s a bad fit and let him go... would suck but better than making an investment on a guy that’s a bad fit.

I don’t think NO would do it honestly... but we should make a phone call... once the saints are eliminated they might do something with the basketball team... if they have time between now and the nfl draft.

I can’t see any reason why NO trades for Exum or Rubio unless they’re also trading Davis and clearing the decks.

I agree but they seem to like non shooting pgs alongside Jrue.

Only reason they move Niko is because they can’t really play all of Randle/AD/Niko together and the need perimeter help in the worst way... I could see them going for Matthews, Bazemore, or someone like that... may not need to put Niko in those deals.

Tobias Harris is the stretch-4 I (and Donovan?) want. He's shooting 88-50-44.

Rubio would be stupid to ask for too much money and leave the Jazz. This franchise is exemplary, competitive, and supportive. A great coach, a deep roster, the #1 defense, a soon to be top 10 player.
Out there, 99% chances he's going to end up in a worse place and a worse situation.

He knows it. This is from last summer:

Next season he will be a free agent, but he declared not to be worried by the economic aspect of the decision, since he had already earned enough for him, his children, and grandchildren.

"I'm not going to lie. Economically, of course I Will have my demands, but I don't intend to strike it rich in my next contract. Or at least it won't be the main thing I will be looking for. My last contract was already very good (4 years, 55M). I've already earned a lot of money. I never thought I would earn so much. Now I want a project in which I'm comfortable, and in which things go well for me and my family."

I don’t know but it’s up to him to show he belongs and can be consistent.

I prefer that he stay and comes off the bench for cheap money but that sounds like an unlikely scenario.

This is tough. The good thing is we have 3-5 months left to see how things play out.

I’m to the point now where if Mitchell shows another two strong weeks of play at the 1 (and we go say 5-2 or 4-3 over the next seven games), I’m willing to trust him at the 1 next year.

We would still have Exum, Neto and Allen to play some 1, as well as Ingles who handles the ball a lot. Knowing Mitchell can be a 1 or 2, and that we have Exum, Royce (sorry I trust him), and Ingles puts me at ease on the wings, and given positionless basketball, makes me think we could simply go after in FA the best available PG, SG, or even SF.

Our guys are flexible that way. We won’t need to retain Rubio or fill his shoes per se imo. We just need to go after the best basketball player(s) we can get and shooting, buying into team defense and effort, and shot creation are keys.

My hope is that Allen really starts to show something the next couple weeks (and months of course) while he has the opportunity to increase his trade value.

Maybe we could pull a Lyles 2.0 and use him and our 1st to move up.
