What I want Hayward to do

Hayward is an athletic, good looking young man who is already a college graduate, a multi-millionaire and he has all his hair. He is facing a choice to make millions here or there depending on where his young wife wants to be.

I have no context to empathize, just like he could not empathize with me.

What I do know is he shows up on my tv about 80 times a year during the drab winter months and I'd rather watch the jazz win than lose.

Hayward got his degree?

Do you know what empathy is? I'm not asking you to feel sorry for him. Its simply asking you to put yourself in his shoes.

If you are a NBA star who wants to win, why would you not want to fully explore your options? Teams will fly him out and wine and dine him to give him pitches. If you were so great at your job would you just flat out reject everyone else and pledge undying loyalty to your current employer?

The empathy is, if you are a person you want as much information as possible to make the decision that is best for you. To say Hayward should give that up to appease everyone else is ludicrous.

It's funny how personal some people take it when players want to leave their options open. Even worse is all the bitterness towards Hill. Utah drafted and developed Hayward, but Hill was here for one season and fans are all butt hurt that he didn't immediately express his undying loyalty to the Utah Jazz. Crazy.

Having said that, if Hayward leaves, I hate him and hope he follows a similar path to D-Will. SOB belongs to us.

Hayward got his degree?

I'm pretty certain he did. Related to that, there was a big brouhaha around these parts because Craig Bolerjack or David Locke mentioned that on the team bus after a game Hayward had his head buried in his book. Some Jazzfanzers took exception to that, thought Hayward ought to be spending more time with his teammates, or coaches, or improving his basketball skills.

At the time his teammates included Al Jefferson and his coach was Ty Corbin, I understand why he took to the books.

Not necessarily. Don't get me wrong a huge move for a star player before free agency would be AMAZING. But if it doesn't happen it doesn't mean Hayward won't stay.

True. But we got to do something.

http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=y7786ulg If we were to pull off a trade getting Ingram even if we have to use multiple firsts, Favors and maybe even Hood and take back Deng, Hayward would have to like the chances of this team to win a title in the next 5 years:

PG Hill, Exum
SG Hayward, Burks
SF Ingram, Deng
PF JoeJ, Lyles, Bolomboy
C Gobert
We would need to add some vet bigs

OVER

PG IT, Smart
SG Hayward, Bradley
SF Crowder, Brown
PF Horford
C Olynyk
#3 and another star (who isn't quite a max level player).

Almost all of us want to Hayward to stay. But there are some things he isn't doing that I wish he would do(assuming he wants to stay)-

1) Be verbally committed to the Utah Jazz. I felt like he has had the opportunity to say "I want to stay" or even "I see myself staying here". He hasn't said anything promising at all. This is why I am worried. George Hill has been more verbally committed to the Jazz(even if he wants a big pay day).

2) Recruit If all we do is resign Hayward, Hill and Ingles, that's great. But we have a ceiling with that team. We aren't beating the Warriors. But by spending so much time/energy figuring out the Hayward situation we haven't been able to recruit at this off season. If he really wanted Utah to win, he could let everyone know he is staying and spend time trying to recruit people.

Warriors? Sheeeeesh you ain't beatin no healthy Clippers 4th seed with this team.
