What if Trey Burke....

I really admire your ability to maintain faith in your guy in the face of the overwhelming facts against him.

This comment does nothing to address my point or the point of the post I quoted. Everything I've read about Trey says he's an extremely hard worker and I think that hard work will make him at least a quality player. I don't believe in faith. I don't think Burke has tapped out of potential after two seasons. Everything the coaching staff said and prove with their actions shows Trey was asked to assume a role he wasn't ready for and as result it lead to him being a terribly inefficient player. There's no question about it the only question is can he work on the areas of his game to be more efficient. Whether that be making shots or taking less or a combo of both.

excellent post. Most people arent seeing the big picture here, and thankfully arent involved in basketball decisions. Trey wouldnt have started out of the gate in a perfect world. Frankly he may just be a career back up, but I still dont understand the hate. He got no credit when he helped us win, and was throw to the wolves when he had a horrible shooting night. I'm in no hurry to declare his career over in two seasons. I think the 3rd and 4th year is where you look for most players to put it all together.

Why do I hate Trey Burke...?
Well, I must confess to the Rev... I guess, I don't.
Decent enough guy (minus a few dumb, immature posts, which would never happen on Jazzfanz)
Hard worker, I'm sure... and he really did handle the relegation to backup PG with professionalism and class, unlike many in the NBA... or even a recent... olgunlaşmamış kişi
So why the hate? Well, maybe not as strong as hate, but let's say... strong dissatisfaction...

Cuz there's really no one else to be dissatisfied with on the current Jazz roster.
Holy crap... (sorry Rev, won't happen again...) I've had an epiphany (and not the religious kind...)

I love the guys on this team! Hayward's a stud, Favors' loves SLC and is a yoeman, Gobert is God... or at least a demigod, Jingles is waydowncool, Hood's a funny, sneaky bball bandit, Burks is resurrected... and on and on... Not a bad apple in the bunch... even including Trey...

Sure, he wastes possessions, plays slow, isn't big enough to defend well, and is from Michigan... but he's not that bad! But, unfortunately... for a team that is seriously lacking for a starter level PG... he falls short (pun intended)... so, he's going to get the brunt of the complaints...

Forgive me Father, for I have sinned. I've had hate in my heart... for someone who really doesn't deserve it... but, I'm only human... and a Jazz Fan, at that.

I feel like every fan base needs one guy to bash on. There really is no one else on the Jazz roster to fit the bill. Treys horrible shooting nights make him easy prey.

Oh my, my...did the Rev just agree with me?
...offer absolution for my hate?
...no penance necessary for the Jazzfanz Burke haters?
I'm off to confession to see if, per chance, wanton fornication is now permitted...

Stiches... appreciate the share... but didn't like this...
bad sound, mediocre questions, horrible-horrible video... multiple times again on the Dante injury...
don't like it!

I like Burke. I was excited when we traded up for him & believed that we had finally found our long-term PG & our emotional leader with the proverbial "ice water in his veins", "clutch" gene, etc that I thought we were lacking. His attitude, which I assumed would be his biggest asset, has turned out to be his biggest problem. He still has that "alpha" mentality, despite the fact that he's not physically capable of being that guy in the NBA. You have to have that unconditional internal belief in yourself to be successful in this league (as well as all aspects of life), but you also need the self-awareness to understand & recognize your limitations. Mentally, Burke is who he is at this point & I don't expect that to ever change.

That is the reason why I would trade him if he is able to increase his value during the upcoming season. Unless he somehow transforms into a completely different style of PG (pass-first, defensive minded) over the off-season, I think that the team should recoup any value possible if the opportunity were to present itself. I know some people would probably prefer to just keep him as our long-term backup (assuming he shows serious improvement during the season), but I don't see his style of play or "alpha" mentality ever fitting on this team (especially if Burks turns out to be our long-term sixth man). I am of the belief that the team (if it doesn't acquire another PG) should use Exum's injury as an opportunity to (attempt to) increase Burke's trade value, as well as determine if we have our long-term backup PG in either of Neto or Cotton.
