What in the name of Cleveland is going on?

What it tells me is that the Cavs really, really want to trade down. If they were locked in on a prospect, they wouldn't be going through the madness. Instead, they're desperate to acquire as many assets that can help them 'win now' or entice Lebron back - simple as that.

Let's say they do trade back to three. Do Thad Young, Dante Exum and Nick Stauskus/Gary Harris really entice LeBron into coming back? I don't see it.

How about if they trade back to four? Aaron Affalo, Noah Vonleh and Doug McDermott? Still no.

Trade back to five? Favors, Burks and Joel Embiid/Aaron Gordon has potential. . . but if it was so appealing, the Jazz would just try to get him for themselves.

The better move is to pick the most hyped star in a loaded draft and then wait to see what Free Agency brings about. Wiggins makes for a better asset after the draft for a team that's actually in a position to trade away a star player like Kevin Love. Betcha he's on board with that trade if LeBron goes there.

2) Cleveland doesn't want either Jabari or Wiggins so much as they want veteran talent - otherwise, they wouldn't be pursuing a trade (similar to the Bucks - no gossip out of them, because they're keeping the pick.)

We can guess:
3) They want Favors. They need a big man and he's clearly the best big man asset that's available to them in a swapping of picks.
4) They know the Jazz want #1 and may act out of desperation.

Thus, every action they're doing is an attempt to either:

A) Get the Jazz to give up their first round pick next year, after which a deal can be considered done.
B) Drive the offer from Orlando or Philadelphia high enough that it well eclipses the Jazz deal, even though Cleveland really wants Favors.

My guess is the deal gets done. Favors, #5, #23 for #1.

And if that's the case, kudos to Lindsey. That's what he allegedly proposed and the Cavs wanted next year's pick instead - with no restrictions. Dennis knows it's likely to be a top-10 pick, so he didn't budge. Instead, knowing the depth of this draft, he made Burks available (I'm assuming INSTEAD of the #23). Cleveland probably values Burks, but not with just one more cheap year left on his contract. So now we've come back to the original terms. Lindsey knows damn well the Cavs REALLY need a BIG. Afflalo and Young were just bluffs.

The James' family LIVES in Cleveland. Mrs. James LOVES it there. You also forgot that Trey Burke is not exactly Kyrie Irving. In addition, Varejao and Lebron are reportedly pretty good friends. If LBJ is going ANYWHERE OTHER than a big market it will be back to Cleveland. Or, he stays in Miami and takes the HUGE contract they can give him that no one else can.

Serious question here for GVC or Kenwood (or anyone else who knows). IF LBJ were to sign a short-term deal (say 2 years), could Cleveland then award him the same type of massive 5-year contract that he could now receive in Miami? Seems to me that would be the way to go if you want to go to a different team. Take a hit for 1-2 years (and you obviously buy insurance), then you get the 5-year MAX deal.

No way. It's a smoke screen. If they were really interested in that, it wouldn't be all over the news. That's how we know the Jazz are serious about Gordon at #5 if they don't move the pick. You make your bluffs public and keep your true intentions as close to the vest as possible.

What I know for sure: You've thought this through more than Dan Gilbert, times infinity. In fact-- and this is just based on last year's draft, of course-- I'm pretty sure everything he is doing is to carefully guard the element of surprise for when "the Cleveland Cavaliers, with the #1 pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, select... Cleanthony Early".

Could be. Exum is unlikely to be there at #5. Might mean the Philly trade is the one they'll take as they know Wiggins/Parker go 1 and 2. Still think Favors is a better trade for them.

I'm a big fan of our Core5 and I happen to like Trey a lot. . . but I'd make that trade in a heartbeat.

Add two of the top 8 players (presumably Aaron Gordon or Noah Vonleh and the best player that's left at 8 - Marcus Smart, Julius Randle or Nick Stauskus) and then cut a deal with Houston for Jeremy Lin for a year with Neto and Harret
