Yes Conley would be fantastic and I even think a bit realistic. We would have to pay him big big time though. I'm ok with that

I third that notion. He'd be the starter while Exum is returning from his injury and then proves he can be aggressive and hit shots.

But I think he's going to be way too expensive. The market will get bid way high with pretty much every team having a boatload of cap space. So Utah would have to overpay to attract Conley. Not concerned with Utah's cap space over the next two years, but when Hayward and Favors come up for new contracts, with Gobert right behind, I'm not sure the Jazz could fit in Conley's deal in years 3 or 4 without going over the luxury tax threshold.

I don't really think it'll be an over pay as he'll probably just the max from the team that wants him.

You think he's worth $25M/per? That's about what a max contract would be next year for him.

I assumed a cap of around $90M. He'll have 9 years in the league so he can be paid 30%. Max contracts are based on BRI, not the actual cap though, and are generally a couple million lower. That's why I put $25M instead of $27M.

I don't think Conley will get the max, but there are going to be some crazy contracts getting signed.

It doesn't really matter what I think, players are getting paid right now.
 
Conley would be great but I don't see him as a realistic option (unless he is acquired via trade, which would be expensive & unlikely, as would re-signing him after his contract expires). The time to acquire a starting caliber PG is now (or by this upcoming trade-deadline at the latest). When considering fit, age, contract, etc, the best (realistic) option that I continually come up with is Avery Bradley.

-He is (potentially) available now at a reasonable price (due to the excess of G's in BOS)
-He is a great perimeter defender
-He is an upgrade offensively to Exum
-He is on a 3/24 contract (which will become even more of a bargain as the cap increases)
-He is young & can continue to develop along with the rest of our core
-He is (by all accounts) a high-character person with a strong work-ethic who should fit in well with the rest of the team
-He is a decent 3-pt shooter (& continuing to improve)
-He can play PG (in our offensive system) & SG (meaning that he can contribute regardless of what happens with Exum's injury/development)
-He allows the team to stick to the formula (offensively & defensively) that brought them success at the end of last season

Obviously it comes down to the price it would take to acquire him & if that turns out to be too expensive, trading for Chalmers (in a salary dump) or signing Cole (at a minimum cost) would be decent (cheap) alternatives but unlikely to make a significant difference in the outcome of this upcoming season. Jennings of DET could also be a realistic option that would likely have a strong impact on our team's success this year, but unlike Bradley, he is only under contract for this season. Also, unlike Jennings, Bradley would allow the team to maintain it's newly formed defensive identity & seamlessly transition from Exum to him at PG, as well as back to Exum (if he eventually earns his starting job back in the future).

The team discovered a winning formula & Bradley would allow the team to continue using that formula. His contract also assures that he would still be a part of the team's future, whether starting or coming off of the bench (acting as our young version of Tony Allen). Imo, Bradley is such a great fit that he would be worth slightly overpaying for. I could even see his acquisition propelling this team to a top 5/6 seed this year (which I believe would go along way towards convincing Hayward, & the rest of the core, to not only stay here long-term, but possibly even take minor pay-cuts in order to do so). If all it takes is a future 1st rd pick + filler to acquire him, it would be well worthwhile in the long run.

Yes, they are. And it's a good reason why Utah should stay out of the FA market next season. Some of these contracts are going to be really, really bad. Almost all will be overpays. Utah needs to reserve their cash for their own stars down the road. But perhaps there might be a player who gets overlooked while everyone is chasing the bigger names.. That's how Atlanta got Millsap on the cheap. Everyone had already shot their, ummm, spent their cash and Atlanta got a huge bargain.

As for Bradley, yes, it would be a good fit. But dealing with Ainge is like dealing with the devil. He has a reputation for wanting way more than what a player is worth. I don't see a Utah/Boston deal ever happening because DL has a reputation for walking away if the price is too high. But you never know. Personally, if the Jazz are in good shape at the deadline (i.e. in solid playoff position), I'd put top-3 protection on the pick (just in case) and offer Ainge our 2016 1st rounder and a boatload of 2nd's and see if he bites.

I dunno if they will be over pays, it's kind of hard to tell. The next steps of the rebuild are to continue developing our players and then acquire more talent in FA. I would still offer Conley a good deal, though he would probably only leave if the grizzlies were starting to rebuild. I haven't seen a lot of Bradley, but sounds like he could help.
 
It's simple. Offer Conley the max. If we snag him, we have a legit shot to go to the finals next year. And he's still just 27.3 years of age to the numbnut who said he's kind of old.

Do this and worry about everyone else later. We'll find a way to keep everyone if we have to. I believe that.
