What's new

What should we do in the off season?

We know Burks is kind of a special player but other teams don't. So right now you can't trade him if you want.

And his rookie year might be misleading but Ingles is a quality player with a lot international experience and a few championship rings. Maybe not a starter level talent but still an above average backup SF in the league.

I like ingles passing and would bet hes a good locker room guy, but i bet he gets less playing time next year. We definitely should try to keep him if we can.

Ingles is a great glue guy. Every team needs guys like him on the bench and in the locker room. He shouldn't be out there nearly as much as he is. He'll stick around, but it will be more for his intangibles than his skill level. Plus he's still pretty cheap.

Gobert, Favors, Hayward, Hood, Burks Exum, Booker, are Core 7 players who I do not expect to see traded.
Ante Tomic will be here next year to round out the front line
Draft pick will be BPA hopefully a SF or stretch 4
Burke will be traded or ride our last year hoping for improvement.
Milsap is on non-guaranteed contract could stick or be part of a trade for assets
Jingles is up in the air would love to have him back for right price. Is he an RFA or can we lose him like we lost Wes Mathews with no right to match?
Jazz let Evans and Ian Clark walk
Cotton Jarett Grant, and any other 10 day contract may be signed to non-guaranteed contract could stick or be part of a trade for assets would only be 15th man and a trade asset.
I do not see a major free agent splash. I do not see the player that fits, would come, and would sign without being matched. I do not want to over pay just to say we got a free agent.
I think that Jazz try to find an under the radar player like they did with Booker and Carroll. I would like to see an upgrade at backup point and Backup Small Forward

Plus we know we can always plug him into the starting line up.

Aside from some player improvement and tweaking of the PG position (a 3&D pg would help immensely), there isn't much this team really needs that won't be addressed with Burks return and Tomic coming over. Assuming they keep this fire, the Jazz are a scary team next year.

I really agree with this but, I also feel that the Jazz need to use there cap space. Because 2016 when all 30 teams have more than 30 million, there's going to be a ton of stupid contracts/expensive contracts!

If Utah can sign Danny Green ( 3 and D) 4 years @ 7-10 mill per year, then sign Barngani (stretch floor/ scorer off bench) 3-4 years at 4-6 million per year, add in Lotto pick, Healthy Burks, plus growth of all our players...watch out!!

Exum / Burke
Hood / Burk / Millsap
Hayward / Green
Favors / Booker
Gobert / Barngani

add in Lotto pick, possibly Tomic, maybe Nato, 2nd rounder. Utah would be a playoff team, with a solid Core plus a decent bench!!

Problem is, Jazz don't want to sign someone for 4 years. They have Hayward, Favors, Exum and Hood all due for a new contract in 2018, this a year after Gobert getting a big contract. I say overpay for DMC for 3 years and bring him back. He like Snyder, and plays good D. Don't know if he'd come in knowing he'd be a backup, but if the money is right...

If Hood continues the emergence we have seen the past few games, the Jazz are in an enviable position. They are very good, and will be even better next year even if they didn't make any moves.

They will, however, have the opportunity to trade very good players for even better players...

Some of the guys we really like will unfortunately be gone, but as a team, if you can replace a very good player with someone even better, you do it every time.

The key decision the team has to make imo is what to do about backup pg. Do we wait and see if Trey makes the 3rd year PG leap? Do we find a veteran backup or young vet ( I really like Cory Joseph and think he'd fit well)?

I don't think we are signing a marquee 3 and D guy. I think Hood, Burks, and Hayward all need 30+ minutes per night when healthy. Our fourth wing could come through the draft or a second/third tier FA (Dunleavy, Crowder, Dudley, etc.) They are only likely to get 20ish minutes per night. If you bring in Carroll, Middleton, Green then it likely pushes Hood's minutes down and won't allow us to bring over Tomic without waiving Booker.

It's too bad the FA we want to go after are all restricted...
Green
Butler
Middleton
Leonard

especially now that the cap will increase I could see teams matching what ever these guys get offered... bummer.

Not sure I'd sing a minimax if I were one of these guys. Tis the season for qualifying offers.
