What type of player do we put next to Mitchell?

It's more important to get a guy who complements Gobert. Mitchell can play with pretty much anyone. Jazz need a young, athletic version of Joe Johnson with more ability to get on top of the rim.
 
Maybe I should have made this into a poll because I have heard 'meh', pure shooter, pure point guard, clone combo guard, and more here.

I think Hood really CAN be the guy next to DM. He is a 'pure shooter' and his size makes us really long. If he's the man for the job, then we are probably looking hard for that SF type that can push Joe Ingles to the 6th man. But playing Hood at the two means DM is a 1. I know the league is 'positionless' but even still the league has reduced players from 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 to point, wing, big. Moving DM to point is a big deal. I think he can do it based on what I have seen and with a couple more years of coaching. That means we should be focused on drafting and trading for wings and stretch bigs in 2018.

Honestly, I feel like we need a young Jason Terry next to Mitchell. Someone who can run PG but can also spot up really well. A team player who just wants to win.

Just a thought, but George Hill is similar to Jason Terry. Favors for Hill, and there first. Would the Kings consider this? I know he's struggling this year, but let's face it, he's playing on the Kings where players go to die. He was taylor made for Utah's offense and is also a very good defender and spot up shooter. He would go great next to Mitchell. Both could take pressure off each other in sharing pg and sg duties.

Then we have the perfect 6th man in Hood
 
I think it is apparent a stretch 4 is essential for the key to open up for Mitchell's drives.

I think exum has proven he and Mitchell are good back court mates.

I think Paul George would be an amazing fit.

How have Exum and Mitchell proven they are good back court mates? Exum hasn't played?
 
Actually, sample size isn't really big, but Burks and Mitchell have had a few good runs, and seem to play well together. Obviously, Gobert is here, so whoever you are considering to pair with Mitchell needs to be able to reliably hit threes to keep spacing consistent and defenses honest. I like the line up of Ingles/Sef, burks, mitchell, Jerebko/Johnson, and last years Rudy (this years Rudy is poo). Favors is going to be traded, and Hood is made of 1ply tp.
 
You have to include Gobert in the equation & because of his style of play, as well as Mitchell's ability to drive/finish, the most important piece is a (at minimum) starting caliber stretch 4 IMO.

Exum developing into a solid 3 & D interchangeable guard would be an ideal fit.
