Indiana finished 3rd in the East. Is Granger a "Superstar?" Scores a lot on volume, but shot <40%. I'd call him an all-star, but not a superstar. How about Memphis, 4th in the West? Randolph is a former all-star. Gay? Way over-priced. Again, a very good player, but not a superstar. It's a superstar league. Who's that guy on the Jazz?
Clearly the current weaknesses are overall playmaking ability at PG and Al's inability to defend in space. It looks like perimeter D and shooting have been addressed.
If Burks fulfills his potential and Gordon achieves some consistency problem #1 will be made up for. Making use of Zone concepts to keep Al down low could really help when teams simply repeatedly use his assignment to set picks on the perimeter. Burks' ability to crash the rim will be unleashed with the improved outside shooting. He's going to be awesome.
Like everyone else said, we need a star player, a go-to scorer who can make plays out on the floor and create for others when the chips are down. I think we'll have enough post scoring, defense and rebounding, but we need a guy who can just wreck opposing offenses the way Karl & John did, the way Tony Parker and Manu Ginobli do, the way Dirk did, the way Lebron and Wade did, etc.
I don't yet see that player on our roster. Burks has some potential here. Favors too if his game develops.
Both? I hope not. You need more than 2 bigs...as you mentioned in your second post I hope Millsap embraces the 6th man role and stays on Utah his entire career.
