Good on Rogan for calling out her BS.

"The perpetrator of the Christchurch mosque shootings produced a manifesto in which he wrote that Owens had "influenced him above all".[87][88][89] According to journalist Robert Evans, it was "possible, even likely" that the shooter was a fan of Owens, considering her rhetoric against Muslim immigrants, but in context the terrorist's references to her may have been an example of "shitposting" intended to provoke political conflict.[90][91] For instance, the line "Though I will have to disavow some of [Owens'] beliefs, the extreme actions she calls for are too much, even for my tastes" was assessed by The Root as trolling.[92]

Hours after the shootings, Owens posted a tweet in reaction to allegations that she inspired the mass murder, saying that she never created any content espousing her views on the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution or Islam.[93] However, her tweet was criticized as "glib" when it was reported that she actually had posted tweets about the 2nd Amendment and Islam.[94][95][96][73] She later made formal statements rejecting any connection to the shooter.[73]

I think Candice Owens does okay there. It's not a hill she'd die on, but she was pressed to die on it anyway. I'm not a Candice Owens fan, by any means. I just don't think this is a "hey look at this stupid idiot say stupid idiot things, har har har" moment. She handles herself pretty well overall.

I agree with all 5 points that The Guardian makes here. But I think we need to talk about right wing propaganda. It has convinced half the electorate to vote against their own interests to enrich people like Donald Trump, Charles Koch, Rupert Murdoch, and Bob Mercer.

bUt SoCiAlIsM! Imagine how much worse getting food would be in a socialist country! /s

Trump and his enablers, esp. in the media, have convinced half the electorate that Biden’s presidency will be illegitimate. Trump could have given his followers “permission” to accept the election results. Instead, he is doing incalculable damage. It’s very hard to see how we overcome this damage. With nearly 72 million votes, and a base that can stage demonstrations such as that which took place Saturday in Washington, Republicans will not be inclined to ignore Trump. It will be hard to diminish his influence at this point. Any prosecution from NY he will weave into his “Deep State” narrative. The alternate reality he has created will be very difficult to eliminate. And I don’t know how, in the near term, Republicans can extricate themselves from that very narrative.

This is real helpful. Very helpful. Why aren’t Dems reaching out more to Republicans like these? We need to understand both sides, amiright?

I’m interested in what his solutions are. Some might say he has a “final solution” for Jews.

Nothing, from what I can tell. Most of their base want them to never compromise, and if they do, they will fear facing further-right primary challengers.
Where does our democracy go from here?

how do you tackle issues such as climate change, poverty, wealth inequality, millions without access to healthcare, hundreds of thousands sick with covid everyday, when the state of your democracy is such?

I think one thing that gives me hope is the demographic of the die-hard Republican supports. They tend to skew older, and they tend to skew uneducated.
Older will take care of itself... eventually. The younger generations are definitely more left-leaning.
If we can get to where an education in this country doesn't cost your firstborn, we may benefit from a larger portion of the population actually having a baseline of knowledge that informs them of the reality of climate change, healthcare, etc.
