I actually would do this trade even though I like next year's draft better. I am not convinced that Memo is going to come back and be effective after the injury. The GS pick is protected and likely going to be in the 10-12 range, our 12th this year is a crap shoot that has less than a 50/50 shot of panning out. I think Knight is much more of a sure thing than we are likely to get from a couple late lottery picks and a guy that is essentially done in my eyes (sad because I like the guy).

PG - Knight
SG - Hayward
SF - Williams
PF - Favors
C - Jefferson
That is a nice core to build around.

You're KOC. You hear that the Cavs take Irving at 1 and Kanter goes at 2. Then you take Derrick Williams.

You are still impressed with Knight so you call up the Cavs and offer Okur, 12th pick and GS Lottery pick.

You clear 10 million dollars of cap room and get a future PG in Brandon Knight. Meanwhile the Cavs get a quality big man, the chance at a SG which is their mean need and a future quality pick.

My thoughts on this. Legit Question - How much of that 10 million could we use to get a player in free agency? Getting a very good proven free agent player versus what we may get with the GS pick next year would be the deciding factor for me. The free agent would have to be darn good, as I love next years draft. I would love this starting line-up though.

Knight - point guard
Hayward - shooting guard
D'Will2 - small forward
Favors - power forward
Jefferson - center

Stir the pot and let simmer for 2 years and we are a contender again. Add the free agent in there with Millsap on the second unit for scoring. Or if the free agent is good enough start him, and take someone off that starting unit to get more seasoning. One thing everyone is forgetting is minus Okur we would only have 7 players under contract for next year. Add the 2 players from this draft and the free agent (if there is money from Okur's 10 million) and you have 10 under contract. Sign Watson for one year as back-up point guard you have 11. Use the mid-level exception if there is one in the new CBA to add one more player, that leaves us with 1 slot to fill to reach 13. If I remember right we are allowed 14 players under contract and O'Conner likes to keep one slot open in case of injuries.

I like getting both Knight and Williams in this draft, and it gives our young starting five an extra year playing together versus waiting to possibly (may be protected) add a player from the GS pick to the mix next year.
