What's The Last Movie You’ve Seen?

Tarantino's Hateful Eight. Finally.

Terrible film.

Seriously?
Yes seriously. We had a discussion about it a bit in this thread already. Easily his worst film, completely forgettable, throw-away roles by some great actors. People get it in their head that it is Tarantino so it must just be edgy and they don't get it, but you know, it must secretly be brilliant and all that ********, but this is so far from Inglourious Bastards (IMO his best film) and Kill Bill that I thought it was one of the grindhouse crap and other crap he was attaching his name to and not even written by him. I was corrected on that in this thread, and it surprised me. But hey, not every movie by every big-name player in the business is a win. I mean James Cameron did The Terminator, but he also did Piranha II: The Spawning, and the horrible Avatar movies. So not all of them are brilliant. And Hateful Eight was a flop on the part of Tarantino. Of course, his name makes money which is why he produces and adds his names to projects, with the whole "Presented by Quentin Tarantino" tagline on so many ****** movies, so it definitely doesn't mean everything with his name on it is good, by any stretch.

Heretic.

Great movie and doesn’t receive enough recognition by the masses IMO probably because the topic is too complex for the lay people to get their heads around.

The movie also makes you think really hard about Christianity and Mormonism.
I really liked it and agree with log that the best parts were before the horror began

Eh, I enjoyed the movie, although I felt like it went off the rails at the end. Too much buildup over the religion to end it with a scene like the cages and the crazy woman in the basement, took away from the more intellectual, philosophical and dark tone from the beginning, IMO, turned it into a basic horror movie, and not a very creative one at that, when they just dropped the religious overtones in favor of more standard horror schlock. And they did not get the mormon mission dynamics right at all. My wife and several of our good friends are former mormon sister misionaries and all of them said the conversations and reaction of the sisters was just too far-fetched. But most of these movies with a negative view of the church use former members, who often were only members as children and only had negative experiences in the church as their consultants. It leads to less than genuine representation of the church and church culture. I am no longer a member, but I prefer them to accurately portray mormon culture and not artificially add this layer of perversion or underlying evil pretenses for everything they do just to take a jab at the cult. There is enough weird and wrong in the church without adding the stuff that just isn't representative of mormon culture as a whole. Do not get me wrong, there is plenty of bad **** in the church, and tons of bad people, but movies like this just do not accurately portray the mormons in the show, and to members and former members it is a bit of a turn off as it doesn't really reflect reality. I am sure there are missionaries like the one sister who keep bringing up sexual things to their companions, my wife has a couple of wild stories about unstable sister missionaries but talking about sexual things directly is a pretty heavy taboo among missionaries, since they are all trying to suppress their normal urges and desires for 2 years and there is a huge stigma around it in the church as a whole, but it is far far from the norm that they would discuss it like that, but in this it makes you feel like saying "yep, those dirty mormons, always hiding ****" instead of taking a true reflection of the religion and breaking it down.

I know most people won't care about the missionary dynamics being crap in this movie, but it is a general turn off for most mormons, and even former mormons, watching the show.
Eh.. the movie didn’t only attack Mormonism, it tackled the idea of organised religion as a whole. You ranted on as if the movie was being disingenuous about Mormonism and nothing else…

Maybe the movie didn’t get the specifics or the little nuances of Mormonism right but the movie as a whole was really well made (A24 studio after all), was much more thought provoking than your run of the mill horror flick, and was a way above average movie (90% on rotten tomatoes).

I don’t know if it’s Tarantino’s worst or not, but honestly his worst is easily better than most director’s bests..

I just loved the set up, being the tavern in the snow storm and all the weird characters that went through it.. that alone was legit gold for me.

Also if memorable performances from Jackson, Russell, Roth, Goggins and Leigh didn’t do it for you, I really don’t know what would. (..granted Tatum bing there was a huge mis step).
